Eastview freshman punches ticket to Top Gun
Impressive athletes don't always have to be the oldest athletes. That was never clearer than the end of the Football University event at Woodbury High School last weekend. The soon to be sophomore Lionel Suggs impressed the FBU staff so much he received one of the coveted Top Gun tickets.
The Eastview freshman – who scored 21 touchdowns for the Lightning's freshman team – had three goals coming into the Woodbury event with a bigger event his end game.
“I wanted to get the (Top Gun) ticket first of all,” Suggs admitted. “I wanted to compete and get better.”
Suggs gave credit specifically to his position coach who he felt let him achieve the goal of getting better.
“It went well. I got better because of my running back coach – Lamont Jordan,” Suggs said. “He made me better; it was fun.”
To get selected for the Top Gun event just getting better isn't going to cut it. The 5'10″ 170 running back felt it was effort and his ability to show his versatility.
“I ran my routes well, and I was working really hard.”
He will be working really hard all the way to the Top Gun Showcase.
