His Hudl displays an athlete who possesses great instincts, ball skills, and is a downhill enforcer from the safety position that is not scared to lay the boom at the point of contact. Finding himself in the unique spot of being undefeated (8-0) after the regular season in the biggest class of football in Minnesota while finding his recruitment beginning to take off gave for a great interview for Northstar Football News that I was lucky enough to procure. Check out what the 2020 FS has to say about Wayzata and their undefeated season, the upcoming playoffs, and his recruitment thus far.

Ukofia: “My name is Anthony Ukofia and I play football for Wayzata. I’m 6’1, 180 lbs, run a 4.65 40-yard. I squat 325 pounds and bench 225. I was born in Minnesota, briefly lived in Memphis, Tennessee but then moved back and have lived here ever since I was four years old. I started playing football in 4th grade, and instantly fell in love with it.”
NFN: What do you love about the game? And how was Wayzata’s 2018 season? How was your season personally?
Ukofia: “I’ve always loved the team aspect of the game and being able to share wins with the guys next to me. Last year we went 5-5 and I’d say we were a lot better than our record said considering the fact we had a lot of very close games. I didn’t play much last season and that really taught me a lot and showers me that I can help my team out a lot even if I’m not on the field. Last year I made a switch from receiver to safety due to injury to one of our starters. That also taught me to accept change because you never know what good will come from it.”

Ukofia: “My expectations for us this year is to go all the way and get a banner. We want people to remember our legacy. We really built on last year in every aspect. The off-season was a grind, we knew that everyone else was working hard so we really focused on going the extra mile and working harder than everyone else. Since this is my first season at safety, I had a lot of work to do personally. I trained a lot this summer so I could make the transition and my coaches really took a lot of time with me to help me become the best player I could be. Playing football at Wayzata is a very good feeling. Our team has become so close and we can actually call it a brotherhood. I love playing for Wayzata because we are very focused on changing the culture here forever.”
NFN: Describe in your own words the 2019 season. Also, how did it feel to get the #1 seed in 6A and what are you guys trying to focus on to win it all?
Ukofia: “This 2019 season has been amazing. Personally, I feel like this season couldn’t go any better and I think I’m playing really well and better than I expected myself to. This year I feel like we really helped change Wayzata’s football culture back into a winning one. Our regular season went very well, it was great going undefeated for the first time at Wayzata in a while. Personally the coolest games to play in this year were Eden Prairie and Minnetonka just because they both meant so much. Honestly receiving the #1 seed didn’t really matter to us, we expected it to happen based on all of the work we put in. This week we play East Ridge and we are taking playoffs one game at a time and we are overlooking NO ONE.”
Credit: Anthony UkofiaNFN: What’s going on with your recruitment? Who have you been in contact with and what are you interested in for a college football program?
Ukofia: “Right now, I have two D2 offered from the University of Mary and Concordia St. Paul. I’ve been contacted by some schools and am planning to go on a game day visit to Northern State this weekend. My recruiting is going good, I really appreciate all the schools at different levels that have reached out to me. I’m interested in schools in any division. At the college level, I’m really interested in a school that’s going to not only better me as a football player but as a student and person.”
