Getting ahead on the recruiting trail of a future potential highly rated recruit and helping to disperse their film and get their name out there as a underclassmen is a very cooling feeling as a writer in my position. I also can’t help but think a good one has been found with this newest recruit for this report: Rosemount 2022 grad TJ Edminson. The 6’2, 205 lb. sophomore reached out to me on twitter hoping to get some recruiting coverage, and I was more than happy to oblige. Edminson has the measurable and attitude of a future scholarship athlete, and I’m very fortunate to be one of the first writers he reached out to. At a powerful 6A school such as Rosemount, Edminson will have a chance next season to play with and against the best competition the Metro has to offer, and if he works hard there will be no doubt you will be hearing more about Edminson in the future. Check out this first-look, exclusive interview with the 2022 grad as we discuss his football career thus far playing at Rosemount, and some of his hopes for recruiting. Hope you enjoy!
NFN: Hello and thank you for your time, TJ. First share a little bit about yourself and where you’re from, as well as when you began to play football.
Edminson: “I was born in Batavia, Illinois which is a small suburb of Chicago and lived there until I was 8. After that I moved to a very small town in Central Ohio named Zanesville. I started playing football there but not until 6th grade. I am a pretty big country boy and love country music since I spent most of my childhood that I could remember there. I moved to Rosemount the summer going into 8th grade and that’s when I really fell in love with football. There wasn’t just 30 kids on a team like in Ohio, this was a big deal and 6A football was huge. Right away I loved what I saw and felt at home. My favorite thing about playing football is just hitting people and winning. I am a 6’2, 210 lb. defensive end and I squat 325 pounds and ran a 5.2 40 at the Gophers camp.”
NFN: What was your sophomore season like individually this year? And how was the sophomore teams performance as well as varsity’s?
Edminson: “Our sophomore season (on the 10th grade squad) was phenomenal. We knew coming in we were good and had a great summer and we could win but we didn’t know how good. We blew almost every team out and I had the most fun I’ve had playing football in a long time. I think I grew a lot as a vocal leader from freshman year to sophomore year. That is definitely my goal going into next year as an upperclassman because we have so much talent that can’t be wasted. From our 8-0 sophomore team to multiple D1 recruits in the grade above us we have a shot at something special. Another thing I’m working on is gaining weight.
Edminson his freshman year wearing #74.I know I have to be heavier to be an impact defensive end at the 6A level so my goal is to be at about 225-230 next year. Summers here aren’t easy but they build athletes. We have a morning running and lifting training session called “BFS” 3 days a week and it’ll help with the weight gain. This year our sophomore team went 8-0 and won the conference. And our varsity team finished 7-4 and made a deep playoff run. I think our grade and the grade above us have a real shot at a state championship next year in 6A. This year at the 10th grade level I had 5 sacks and 8 TFLs. As a freshman coming into the program you could see how good of a program Coach Erdmann had built and how it’s a winning culture. Every year no matter how many studs we lost we are always ranked highly. Despite that a guy I have loved up to the last two years and has been Jonathan Mann. He’s a D1 commit and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. All his accolades and awards and he still smiles and says hi to almost everyone in the hallway. He also works his butt off in the weight room and leads by example.”
NFN: What’s going on with recruiting? Who are some teams you are interested in?
Edminson: “Some schools I’m interested in are Minnesota, St. Johns, St. Thomas, NDSU, and SDSU but realistically I just want to play football after high school anywhere that wants me to play for their school. I’ve been to a couple Gopher camps but not to many others. Me and my friend Sam Kuseske (6’5 2022 WR) did receive a gameday invite from Northern Illinois but it ended up falling through and we couldn’t make it. I’m not picky about schools I just want to go somewhere where I can play football and study to become a police officer which is what I want to do.”
Stay tuned to see how Edminson and his predictions unfold in the future!
