Within the 36-30 final score in favor of the #1 ranked 4A Wolfpack, prep football players balled out in the biggest game of their season and their hard work still deserves recognition despite this writer having computer issues last week. Let’s check out who stood in the section final game and earned their Northstar Football News Offensive Players of the Game. Hudl recap: http://www.hudl.com/v/2CD4Gk
1) Jalen Suggs (6’5, 210 lb.) A non-surprise here, the 5-star recruit has obvious athletic talent that a Minnesota prep player hasn’t possessed since possibly Joe Mauer. The senior has a rocket or an arm and could make any throw the Wolfpack coaching staff could have possibly asked of him. Able to flick the ball 50+ with ease, it was a heckuva sight watching Suggs sling the rock for 4 quarters in St. Louis Park. Besides his arm, the 5-star hooper basically won SMB the game with his legs. Late in the 4th quarter Suggs took off 80-yards in what looked as difficult for the QB as a morning jog. There was less than two minutes left in the game and SMB desperately needed points, and it looked like Suggs suddenly decided to try as hard as he can, and got SMB into the redzone in a matter of seconds. It was fun to watch him and I’ll miss his football days when he gets to the NBA. He finished the game throwing 16-36 for 288, 4TDs, and 1 INT, as well as 13 rushes for 99 yards. 2) Joe Marinaro (6’0, 215 lb.) One of the RB’s in BSM’s backfield committee, Marinaro finished the game with 4 carries for 70 yards and 1 TD.
Joe MarinaroI can’t lie, every time Marinaro touched the ball the entire SMB fan section behind me would audibly hold their breath. A dad of an SMB player behind me hit the nail on the head when he remarked “that boy is a missile seeking contact.” The senior was running the ball with a violence and aggression that looked like he had a personal vendetta against all 11 of the SMB defense. Multiple Wolfpack defenders found themselves on their butts when #23 would run the ball, and I hope the 2020 grad finds himself playing football somewhere next year. 3) Terry Lockett (6’0, 175 lb.) The 4-star WR holds offers from Minnesota, Michigan State, Nebraska, Iowa, and Cincinnati, and it’s easy to see why. Incredibly athletic with great speed, the 2020 grad made it look very easy running by defenders in route to his 8 catches for 188 yards and 3 TD’s including the game winner. Catching balls on a variety of routes, Lockett will make a college football coach extremely happy come February 3rd this year.
