The Tigers finished the regular season undefeated before falling to SMB in a close State Quarterfinal game. Hutchinson has one of the most potent running offenses in Minnesota, but the other key to their success is their stout defense. This year’s Tiger Defense dominated the line of scrimmage. Defensive tackle Jordan Titus was one reason the Tigers were able to win the battles along the line.
Jordan Titus (Class of 2021)
Position: Defensive Tackle
Height: 6’1″ Weight: 300 pounds
Max Bench press: 325 Max Squat: 485
Titus’s stats will tell you he’s big and strong. That’s the truth but for some players who are weight room strong it doesn’t show up on the field. Titus uses his strength by applying proper leverage when he makes contact with the offensive lineman. The part of Titus’s game that surprises his opponents is his quick first step and closing speed.
Northstar Football News chatted with Jordan recently:
NFN: What do you enjoy most about football?
Titus: I enjoy the commitment it takes. No matter how much you love it, it’s always a grind. I think it shows true strength to make it through the season.
NFN: What are your strengths?
Titus: I think my quickness and athleticism for my size are my biggest strengths. Most people don’t expect me to be that quick.
NFN: Do you have a mentor when it comes to football?
Titus: My cousin, JoJo Garcia. JoJo played defensive tackle for Cretin-Durham Hall/East Ridge and was committed to play for the Gophers. He passed away two years ago. He taught me a lot and I always remember that. When things get tough, I think of him and go harder.
NFN: If you had to pick two team mates you’d like to be like, who would they be?
Titus: Russell Corrigan (Boise St. 2020 commit) because he’s a different animal on the field. He zones everything out and plays at the highest level. The other one is Ethan Beffert (University of Minnesota Duluth 2020 commit), he works very hard and is consistent. You can always count on him to do his job.
NFN: Which team was your biggest challenge this season?
Titus: Marshall had a very good offensive line and were good at getting blocks on us after we broke through the line. They also worked really well together. The win over Marshall, with my friends, after losing to them the two previous times in the playoffs was my biggest accomplishment so far.
