Heading the football team in 2020 – in what will be his second year as a captain- is no easy task, but Hodges is up to the challenge as a 4-sport athlete who holds a 3.2 GPA. Hodges has received junior day invites from UW-Eau Claire, Southwest Minnesota State, UW-River Falls, Minnesota State University-Moorhead, Bemidji State, Concordia College-Moorhead, University of Jamestown, and Mayville State, and was kind enough to give Northstar Football News some of his time to discuss 2019, what he likes about the Burnsville program, his recruitment, & more! Hope you enjoy! Junior Year
Mean ‘ol stiff arm.NFN: Hello and thank you for your time, Myiion. Please begin by telling us a little bit about yourself, when you began to play football, what you love about the game, and your measurables!
Hodges: “Well, I am from Burnsville, I started playing football when I was in 2nd grade…fun facts about me is that I play 4 sports & I love video games…the things that I love about football is the brotherhood it makes & the excitement & joy it brings and I love the process…the off season grind is one of my favorites other than game days. I am 5’10 195lbs and I currently run a 4.54 40yd dash, I currently bench 235lbs, squat 415lbs, and clean 220lbs & I am also a 2 year captain of the football team.”
NFN: What do you like most about the Burnsville program?
Hodges: “The thing I like most about the Burnsville football program is that everyone accepts you…no matter if you are newcomer to football or a person who’s been playing football all your life, the coaching staff will still accept you & make you work just like everyone else.”
NFN: What were your expectations like for the season going into 2019, and how did y’all prepare for the season?
Hodges: “My expectations for myself and the team in 2019 were very high to be honest…I believe that we could’ve beat any team we played, but unfortunately our season didn’t go so well and we went 1-7 & lost 34-0 to Mounds View in the first round of playoffs.
#3I believed we prepared ourselves for the 2019 season well, but we had a lot of new starters including me, & some things happened and we had some of our best players quit & some got injured.”
NFN: Next season will be better. What’s up with recruiting? Who are some teams you’re interested in?
Hodges: “I have a planned a couple of visits to some D2 and D3 schools…some colleges I am interested in are University of Minnesota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Bemidji State, Concordia-St.Paul, Minnesota State Mankota, and Southwest Minnesota State.”
Whatever program lands #3 from the Blaze, they’re getting a heckuva player and an even better leader. Thanks again, Myiion.
