Luke Humbert is a 6’1″, 200 pound RB/LB from Rocori High School in Cold Spring, Minnesota. Humbert helped the Spartans to an 11-2 season and capping the season with the 4A Prep Bowl. Humbert proved himself as a vital piece of the team on both sides of the ball. At RB he has good vision and agility that complement each other greatly, but also has breakaway speed to mix in with them. Defensively, I thought his strongest attribute is in pass coverage, he drops into his zone and reads the opposing QB well and has excellent jumps on routes. He also contains the run game really well and makes a sure tackle, rather than going for the big hit on every play. I was able to catch up with Luke and interview him on the championship season as well as his hopes for his Senior campaign in 2020. Check it out below!
NFN: Hello Luke, tell us a little about yourself and how you began playing football.
Humbert: My dad was big on football, so growing up for me, everything was football. He was the high school football coach so I was introduced to the sport early. I started playing tackle football in 5th grade.
NFN: What do you love about the game? How was the 2019 season for you and your team?
Humbert: My love for the game started with my competitive spirit to always be the best I can be. We had an unforgettable season, winning the 4A State Title. Personally, I stepped into a bigger role this season, playing both ways. After getting some playing time as a sophomore due to an injury, I had achieved my expectation as a Junior to the role I had as a LB and RB.
NFN: What were your expectations for you and your team this season? How are you guys looking for the 2020 season?
Humbert: Our expectations were high last year, and we met them with the Prep Bowl victory. Now we have to stay motivated for next season to repeat. We have a lot of players returning for next season so we think we have a good shot to repeat as champions. Personally, I just want to take my game to another level.
NFN: How has your recruiting been going? Who have you been in contact with?
Humbert: I’ve been in contact with coaches from UND, University of Montana, Stony Brook University, NDSU, Bemidji State and UM-Duluth.
NFN: What are you looking for in a college program?
Humbert: I’m interested in someone who will give me a chance to play at the next level. One who will push me to be the best player I can be and build a personal connection with as well.
