is a 6’1″, 185 pound TE/LB for the MACCRAY Wolverines. He had 69 total tackles, 5 INT’s and 3 forced fumbles on defense. While on offense, he added 8 catches for 81 yards. Even though he’s listed as a LB, he also played DB for a few plays a game and excelled at both. On film, Asche did a good job timing the snap on plays when he blitzed and was able to get in the backfield pretty easily. He also read the opposing QB pretty well when at DB and made good plays in the pass game. He also possesses impressive speed to run down plays from behind. Offensively, he used his height and jumping ability to his advantage, elevating above his defenders to go get the jump ball. I was able to ask Will about his future in football. Check out his answers below!
NFN: Hello Will, tell us a little about yourself and when you began playing football.
Asche: I started playing football in 5th grade and have played every year since. I have played a different position almost every season too. Basketball was my favorite sport for years until 9th grade when I got the chance to start varsity at CB, ever since, football has been my passion.
NFN: What do you love about the game?
Asche: I love the relationships formed with my teammates and coaches along with the memories made with them. I also love the preparation each off-season, competing in practice with my teammates and seeing it all come together on Friday nights. The physicality of the game is another thing I love, there’s no better feeling than making a big hit or blowing up a play on defense.
NFN: How was your 2019 season as team and personally?
Asche: This season, we were a different team by the end of the year. Our record definitely does not show it, but we made huge improvements from start to finish both as a team and as individuals. Personally, I was happy with my performance and improved a lot throughout the year as a player, teammate and leader.
NFN: What were your expectations for this season both as a team and personally?
Asche: Our goal this season was just to improve as team, coming off a winless 2018 season, our ceiling was high. For myself, I wanted to step up and be a leader for my teammates and underclassmen, I feel like I filled that role pretty well.
NFN: What’s it like playing for MACCRAY?
Asche: Playing football, basketball, and baseball for MACCRAY is something I’m proud of and I enjoy every minute of my athletic career here.
NFN: How has your recruiting been going? What are you looking for in a college program?
Asche: I have been blessed to be in contact with Minnesota State- Moorhead, Concordia Moorhead, and Jamestown University. I have attended Junior Day visits at all three schools as well. I’m looking for somewhere with a great culture. I would like to be apart of a program that will help me grow as a player, but also as a person because football doesn’t last forever.
