Getting ahead on the recruiting trail of a future potential highly rated recruit and helping to disperse their film and get their name out there as a underclassmen is a very cooling feeling as a writer in my position. I also can’t help but think a good one has been found with this newest recruit for this report: Sauk Rapids-Rice 2022 QB Bryce Lund. The 6’7, 180 lb. pocket-passer has all of the tools you could want in a young QB with the arm strength and accuracy seemingly there, and he has as high of a ceiling in terms of potential as any prospect in the class of ‘22. Lund is already hearing from a D1 school and some high powered D3’s, and the unique talent was kind enough to give NFN some exclusive first-look information on his learning curve of a year in 2019, which colleges he’s already hearing from, what he offers as a recruit, and more. Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy! Hudl Profile
NFN: Hello and thank you for your time, Bryce! Please begin by sharing with us a little bit about where you’re from, when you began to play football, and what you love about the game.
Lund: “I am from Sauk Rapids-Rice and I first started playing organized football in the 3rd grade but I’ve been passing the football with my dad ever since I can remember. Some fun facts about me is that I play basketball and used to play catcher in baseball. I love everything about football except playing defense (lol) but the competitiveness that comes from the game is unlike anything i’ve ever done in my lift and I love it.”
NFN: What are some of your overall thoughts about the 2018 and 2019 SRR football seasons. What were some highlights & lowlights? And what did you learn from those experiences?
Lund: “This past season was a great learning curve for me and my teammates as we had come from a season of winning and to go 2-6 or 2-8 was not fun, but football isn’t all about winning or losing. Some highlights for me would be just going on trips and into battle with my boys and the time we spent trying to put together a winning team. The low lights would definitely not accomplish our goals of a winning season. For me personally it helped me prepare for this upcoming season and it gave me a perspective on what to expect in 2020.”
NFN: What were your expectations for the 2019 season? How did the team learn from it going into next season? And what do you like about playing in the Sauk Rapids-Rice season?
Lund: “I expected us to beat more of the teams we did but that doesn’t always happen but I’m not going to create a losing culture in Sauk Rapids and I know it is not acceptable here. I think we all know that we need to really work harder this offseason because the teams we play are tough, we won’t have any gimmes this year and we are gonna have to earn every win this year. Playing at Sauk Rapids Rice is an amazing opportunity for every student-athlete that plays any sport here not just football. Our programs here are second to none and i’m not just talking about football. We have an abundance of grade coaches that deliver valuable life lessons along with great input on the game.”
NFN: Get into some detail about the games from last season? Who’d you play? How’d they go?
Lund: “My first eight regular season games were great but a little disappointing at times.
Freshman year Lund.We came off a pretty successful season the year prior and had raised the bar pretty high for ourselves. We played (in order) Delano L 31-24, Sartell W 17-14, Brainerd L 26-3, Tech L 44-14, Hutchinson L 54-15, Morehead L 34-0, Bemidji L 16-6, Alexandria W 26- 21, Elk River L 34-23. The craziest game for us was probably the Alexandria game. They were a talented 5-2 team with several players that have commited to play football colligently. We won by 5 points and it was a hard fought tough game.”
NFN: Even though it’s early, where are you at in the recruiting process? Have you heard from anyone?
Lund: “At this point, early in my recruiting process I’m just kinda interested in any team that contacts me and I haven’t favored any school yet. I haven’t planned any visits yet but i have been invited to several camps. I’ve been contacted by several schools like St.Thomas University, Wisconsin -Whitewater. Bethel, St.Olaf, Gustavus, and Colorado State University.”
NFN: What can you offer a college team as a football prospect?
Lund: “I can offer my unique talent as well as my hard work ethic, I love studying film and working in my playbook as well as training and working out to improve my game.”
I don’t know when it will happen, but at some point Lund’s recruitment is going to take off. Don’t be surprised when it does!
