Hunter McKinney is a 6’2″, 285 pound OL/DL from Pipestone Area. He helped anchor the Offensive Line from the Left Tackle position in the Arrows 7-4, State-qualifying 2019 season. He does a good job firing off the ball, engaging the opposite lineman first and continuing to drive his feet until the whistle. In the pass game, he does a good job getting position on the pass rusher and keeps shuffling to keep that position until the pass is thrown. McKinney got some playing time as a Sophomore and became a full-time starter as a Junior and Senior. He was also a member of the Arrow Basketball team as well. I was able to get ahold of McKinney and ask him about his future in school and football. Check it out below!
McKinney- Julie Houselog-ManzeyNFN: Hello Hunter, tell us about yourself and when you began playing football.
McKinney: I’m a Senior at Pipestone Area High School. I started playing football in 5th grade.
NFN: What do you love about the game?
McKinney: I love that football is a team game, you’re only as strong as your weakest link. Everyone has to play their best to win.
NFN: What were your expectations for the 2019 season?
McKinney: I thought we were going to make State this year, which we had to comeback on our section rival Redwood Valley, which we pulled through.
NFN: How was your 2019 season?
McKinney: We had a lot of players come out for their first year of football, a lot of them stepped up and helped us make the State tournament.
NFN: How is your recruiting going? What are you looking for in a college program?
McKinney: I’m in contact with one school. I’m open to talking to schools at any level. I hope to go to school where I feel at home and welcome.
