Their head coach is a football legend in Dwight Lundeen who is the first and only coach of the Bulldogs when their program was formed 50 years ago. Standing 3rd all-time in victories he built this Becker program from the ground up to what it is today and has won three state championships in 2005 and the Bulldogs won “back to back” in 2014 and 2015 under Lundeen. Becker had an excellent season last year, finishing 8-2 on the season with wins over Delano and Rocori (state champions) during the regular season. Delano was able to beat Becker in the section playoffs, but don’t think for a second that the Bulldogs are back for in 2020 in Coach Lundeen’s 51st season coaching his beloved Bulldogs. Becker has had tons of scholarship level talent over the years and doesn’t change with this year’s team. The town of just over 4500 people located 20 minutes from St. Cloud and a little over an hour from the Twin Cities is my third edition from Northstar Football News, “MN Football Hotbeds” featuring the Becker Bulldogs! Enjoy.
Unsigned 2020’s
Carter Hietala, WR, 2020
Hietala you may remember from his recruiting report a while back. Had 45 receptions, 705 receiving yards, and 8 touchdowns for the Bulldogs last season. Hietala is a tough build at a wide receiver at 6’1 200 pounds and is a tough tackle for any secondary. It can line up anywhere in your receiving pattern. Runs a 4.85 40 yard dash. Glue hands catch any ball that comes near him and is still unsigned.
Josh Fobbe, QB, 2020
Fobbe currently holds a Northern Sun offer from Southwest Minnesota State. Played in the Minnesota Football Showcase, which displays the top players in Minnesota. Threw for over 1800 yards and 21 touchdowns last season. Has a mobile presence, with no issues throwing on the run. Strong arm, can make just about any throw possible and is an unsigned talent that is a multi-sport athlete for the Bulldogs.
Austin Berning, RB/S, 2020
Holds two offers from NAIA Jamestown (North Dakota) and Dordt (Iowa). Multiple options at running back ran for almost 400 yards and over 200 yards receiving last season. Ballhawk type tackler at safety just clings to wherever the football is. Great speed, just gets faster when he turns upfield.
The Future of the Becker Bulldogs
One of the scariest linebacking cores in the state is the Becker Bulldogs led by defensive coordinator Hokan Bengston.
Brayden Weber Brayden Weber 6'2" | LB Becker | 2021 State MN , LB, 2021
Watching the first few minutes of the film, it’s unbelievable how many linemen left Weber unblocked and he made their quarterback pay. 6’2 220 pound linebacker that just is so elusive in both pass rush and can stuff the run. Lots of interest from Minnesota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Western Illinois, Winona State, Sioux Falls, Minnesota-Duluth, and St. Thomas. Circling back, you can check out my earlier recruiting report on Brayden Weber Brayden Weber 6'2" | LB Becker | 2021 State MN
Tommy Halvorson, LB, Class of 2021
Both Halvorson brothers, Tommy and Teddy are heavy hitters. You can see how hard Tommy is to block and the hits he makes against their rival, Big Lake in the film below. He also has plenty of other tackles on film you’ll want to see.
Teddy Halvorson, LB, Class of 2021
Week 1 last season against Monticello, Teddy was one of the top defensive players I got to watch. He’s very much an in on every play type of prospect which is what you want in a linebacker. He can drop back into coverage, stuff the run, and chase after the quarterback too as you’ll see on tape.
Ethan Wilson, RB/CB, Class of 2021
You can tell the athleticism Wilson has in his runs. Not much tape on him via Hudl, but another strong tailback the Bulldogs feature.
Kyle Millard, CB, Class of 2021
This was my favorite film I got to watch because of how well Millard was in coverage in a couple big snow games last season.
Chase Murphy, DE, Class of 2021
Murphy may only stand 5’8-5’9 but he is a bull at 195 pounds. Strong defensive end that can stop the run or get after the quarterback.
Alex Kotten, CB, Class of 2021
Kotten shows off his awareness of this interception against Princeton last season.
Caden DeWall, RB/LB, Class of 2021
Coming off the edge for the Bulldogs, we at Northstar Football News have Caden Dewall Caden Dewall LB Becker | 2021 State MN as a top 100 prospect in the state. DeWall is an elusive player that has quick feet that’s extremely mobile defensively. Very strong tackler that eats up any play that comes near him.
Hunter Klatt, FS, Class of 2021
As a roaming free safety, Klatt uses his ability to read the quarterback’s eyes and get a pick 6 against St. Cloud Apollo.
Luke Elgen, WR, Class of 2021
Elgen is a well-versed wide receiver that is always aware of where the first down marker is. Had three touchdowns last season and certainly will get more this season with the departure of Carter Hietala.
Brenny Schmidt, T, Class of 2021
Schmidt is a strong yet quick tackle for the Bulldogs that definitely will open up plenty of holes for his running backs.
Landon Goebel, CB/WR, Class of 2022
Goebel is another player with limited film, however, he uses his instincts where the out of bounds line is to get a nice interception is Becker’s big win against the Big Lake Hornets last fall.
Mitchell Louden, DE, Class of 2021
Louden is another nice defensive end the Bulldogs have coming back this year. Check out his big loss sack against Rocori last fall.
Carter Callahan, FB, Class of 2022
The Bulldogs fullbacks of Isaac Koop and Carter Callahan carried for over 600 yards last season. That has to be a Minnesota state record for the fullback yards in a season. And they say the fullback position is going away, certainly not the case for Becker. Watch Callahan rumble up the middle against state champion, Rocori for a 45 yard gain in Becker’s victory midseason.
Kaden Pfingsten, WR, Class of 2021
Pfingsten shows off good hands in the scrimmage the Bulldogs had in Edina last August.
Go Bulldogs!
