Scouting Report:
When you put on the tape of Pittman, the first thing that is evident is his athleticism. This is a kid who lined up at running back for his squad and dragged defenders for a first down. Pittman as a defensive lineman did most of his work as a three-down defensive end. He combines elite quickness, with exceptional hand fighting ability to give offensive lineman issues. Pittman is extremely slippery as a pass rusher, to go with an ultra competitiveness. He has rare bending ability for a guy who’s almost 270 pounds. His brute strength tends to give OL’s problems, as he often tackles backs with simply one arm. Pittman is a sideline-to-sideline runner, which is hard to find in a man at that size. His effort and ability to chase down plays from behind is really unique. Pittman has no issues when teams double team him, slide protections his way, or chip him at the line. Pittman even played offensive tackle in 2019 and was a major mismatch for other team’s defensive lineman. This kid is filled out for a high school defensive lineman and doesn’t have that baby fat you normally see in a 17-year-old big man.
I loved the coaches there. I get along really well with Coach Bell. The way their program runs just fits me.

Analysis:
Iowa has had a lot of success with Illinois defensive lineman, including; Lane Tech’s Louis Trinca-Pasat, Montini’s Jaleel Johnson, and recent 2nd round pick out of Edwardsville Aj Epenesa. Currently, Pittman lines up as a defensive end; however, in Iowa’s four down front, he’ll line up as a 3-technique on the inside. I could see him growing into a nose tackle at a later date. Iowa’s scheme will be a slight adjustment at first, mainly because of their style of play. Iowa’s defensive coordinator Phil Parker is not big on tackles for loss and actually discourages it. Pittman was a TFL machine and was a terror to offensive lineman in the run game, which was most definitely not a bad thing. Nonetheless, I don’t see this being a big issue, as from what I’ve been told, Pittman is extremely coachable. Jeremiah was named our #1 defensive lineman in Illinois and deservedly so. He’s such a talented pass rusher for a man his size and is relentless when getting after the QB. With the success, Iowa has had with not only defensive lineman from Illinois, but defensive lineman in-general this seems like a natural fit.
