Not only have they had 13 straight winning seasons, but have also made 4 state tournament appearances and won the 2011 Class A Prep Bowl. The thing that makes me call them a ‘secret recruiting hotbed’ is the amount how college athletes they have produced in that time. A lot of those athletes were great football players, but most chose a different sport in the college level. The 2019 season was no different, I will mention the players that caught my eye this year as well as the past players who made the college jump.
WR/DB- Zach Durfee- Gustavus Adolphus (Basketball)
WR/DB- Romell Horton- Unsigned to my knowledge- speed, route running and hands
RB/LB- Josh Anyasike- Unsigned to my knowledge- speed, power and vision
OL/DL- Austin Moen- Unsigned to my knowledge- size, power, and technique
WR/DB- Micah Olson- Unsigned to my knowledge- hands, route running and awareness
OL/DL- Slade Irvine- Unsigned to my knowledge- grit, power, and role-playing
OL/DL- Gauge Liebl- Unsigned to my knowledge- power, technique, and tackling ability
OL/DL- Kobe Spencer- Unsigned to my knowledge- size, technique, and power
Past Preps in college sports
Nathaniel Huot- SMSU Football, has the All-Time Record for career receptions in the NSIC at 269. Was also originally on the Men’s Basketball team.
Joey Lee- Bethel Football, 36-3 as a Blackjack starting QB.
Justin Lee- SMSU Football, over 4,000 career rushing yards for Dawson-Boyd.
Esten Weber- SMSU Football, 150 tackles as a senior at Dawson-Boyd.
Zach Stratmoen- SMSU Football- honorable mention All-NSIC twice at SMSU.
Eli Weber- Augustana Football- First team All-NSIC for Augie as a Sophomore.
Joe Anyasike- St. John’s Track & Field
Michael Lee- SMSU Basketball- 1,000 point scorer for the Blackjacks
