I’m always on the lookout for 2022 recruits, and getting a first look at a recruit who has a ton of potential and upside and eventually blows up big in the recruiting scene is a really cool feeling as a PrepRedzoneMN scout. At 6’3, 280 lbs. Chaska Hawks rising junior Colton Rada is one of those prospects. He’s a big kid who’s putting up a ton of weight in weight room and has a ton of room to grow on his frame, and got meaningful and impactful varsity reps on the 5A state champion Hawks squad’s DL and OL including in the state tournament.
Rada with a state tournament block.I really like what I see on film from him too. He plays low and uses his hands well, is way stronger than most prep sophomores, and is tenacious and plays with a high-motor. On his JV reps he looks unstoppable, and I’m really excited to see him as an upperclassman and most likely a full-time starter in 2020. PrepRedzoneMN was lucky enough to catch up with Rada to learn a little bit more about him, his football career thus far, the 2019 season, recruitment, and more. Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy! Sophomore Highlights
PRZ: Hello, Colton! Thanks for your time. Please begin by telling us about yourself.
Rada: “I’m Colton Rada from Chaska, Minnesota. I started playing football in 3rd grade. Fun facts about my are my dad is from the Philippines and my mom is from America. My mom is a single mother. I do have autism spectrum disorder. I’m 6’3 280lbs I bench 305 squat 435 hang clean 265. My 40 is 5.3 agility 4.95.”
PRZ: How was your 2018 freshman season and the adjustment to high school ball?
Rada: “It was a good season the freshman team only lost 3 games and the varsity went to state so a good year all around I did start the year on a concussion and had shoulder troubles. The adjustment was pretty easy, everything went well in the class room.”
Rada (69) with the blockPRZ: What were your expectations like for the 2019 season? What’d you do to better yourself on the field and what do you enjoy about the Chaska program the most?
Rada: “Expectations/ goals going into this year was to try and start varsity. I spent a lot of time in the weight room and on the field doing foot work drills. The thing I like most about Chaska football is that it truly is a family and you get to have very tight relationships with the coaches and players. Which translates into the field.”
PRZ: Tell us about the 2019 regular season and the state championship run. How was your performance?
Rada: “My first 8 regular season games went really well I played a lot of varsity mins I never started but I did play a lot of snaps. In thoose games I played pretty well too. The championship run was crazy even though it was my first year playing varsity football it has always been a dream of mine. I played a lot of snaps in the semi final but none in the final.”
PRZ: How about recruiting? Who are some teams you’re interested in and what are you looking for in a college?
Rada: “For college recruiting It’s always been a dream to go to those huge schools like nana Clemson and those. I have heard from some NAIA schools and UMD which I got a camp invite too. Things I look in for a school are location, education, and football.”
Rada with the big stick on the DLPRZ: What do you think you can add to a college team and what do you love about football the most?
Rada: “I think I can add a lot to a college team, I’m a natural leader and can also lead by example. I love spending time around the football team and getting those relationships stronger. This year I’m getting the lineman to go and hang out a couple times over summer not football related just to gain that chemistry.”
Keep your eye out big #69 this next season. If he can put together a solid junior tape there’s going to be a lot of schools coming to Chaska to talk to Rada. Keep working hard, stud!
