The Longhorns went 5-5 in 2019 and are trying to turn the program around under new head coach, Tommy Watson. He still doesn’t have a team that can compete for a state title, but they do have some talented players who could have breakout seasons this fall.
Kojo Antwi Kojo Antwi 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Lambert | 2022 State GA – Wide Receiver- Class of 2022
The best player on the team, the 6-foot-1 190-pound wideout is coming off a big sophomore season where he caught 48 passes for 679 yards and 6 touchdowns. Antwi is still a little raw and needs to work on his route running, but it’s easy to see the talent. He has good speed for his size, he’s got some shiftiness to his game, and he’s a threat to take it the distance with the ball in his hands. He does a nice job of picking up yards after the catch, and he works the sideline really well. Antwi currently holds multiple Power 5 offers including Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, among others. The best part of Antwi’s game is his potential. He still has two years of high school left, and if he continues to develop his game the right way while continuing to put on good weight, he could continue to climb the rankings in the 2022 class.
Grayson Mains – Offensive Tackle – Class of 2022
Mains is a “first guy off the bus” type of kid at 6-foot-5 250-pounds. He started for Lambert last year as a sophomore at both tackle spots, but will hold down the left tackle position in 2020. He’s long, tough, and does a good job of playing until the whistle. His long arms and above-average footwork help him in pass protection, and Mains proved last year he can dominate smaller defensive lineman in the run game. He plays with good leverage and hand placement, and consistently does his job each play. He moved well in practice and has the potential to earn some major offers with a strong junior season. The Kansas Jayhawks have offered, and they likely won’t be the last.
Ashton Smith – Quarterback – Class of 22
If the Longhorns are going to thrive on offense, it will be up to junior quarterback, Ashton Smith. The 6-foot-2 275-pounder is now the starter and will have an SEC-caliber wide receiver to throw too. Smith is a baseball player too who knows how pitch. He’s got a strong arm, but he’s still learning the ins and outs of playing the position. As he gets bigger and stronger, so will his arm. As for this fall, he’ll be the guy, and many on the Longhorns staff feel good about their chances with him behind center.
