When first-year New Mexico head coach Danny Gonzales, a native of Albuquerque, was hired in December, he vowed to boost the Lobos’ in-state recruiting efforts after the previous staff all but ignored the talent in the state.

So far, Gonzales is making good on his promise.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Lowery joins Clovis DL Jaden PhillipsJadenPhillips6'2" | DLClovis | 2021StateNM (#5), Cleveland WR Luke WysongLukeWysong5'10" | WRCleveland | 2021StateNM (#6) and Goddard OL Larry LunaLarryLuna6'5" | OLGoddard | 2021StateNM (#7) in committing to the Lobos.

"UNM was the best fit for me in that all the coaches made me feel like I was wanted and needed," Lowery told Prep Redzone New Mexico. "I’m being recruited as an athlete. I want to play on both sides of the ball. When I told the coach that I was coming there, he sounded very happy and excited."

The early signing signing for the 2021 class begins in mid-December.

As a sophomore, Lowery helped lead La Cueva to the 2018 Class 6A state championship. Last season, Lowery finished with
