Continue ReadingAs we have previously noted in our spotlight series, we love to be able to shine the light on some of the younger prospects in Georgia in which we feel will continue to breakout as high school football players. With defensive back being such a technically sound, fine tuned position, we get very excited seeing 2022 and 2023 prospects make an impact on the field early on. While there are some obvious defensive backs in the 2022 class, like Marquis Groves-Killebrew Marquis Groves-Killebrew 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Brookwood | 2022 State GA , Deyon Bouie Deyon Bouie 5'11" | 185 lbs | ATH Bainbridge | 2022 State GA , and Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA who did not make the list due to previous coverage and obvious success, we have listed a few other players who feel deserve a bit more attention due to their early success, and high ceiling.
Malaki Starks Malaki Starks 6'1" | 195 lbs | ATH Jefferson | 2022 State GA – 6’2 195 Jefferson
Malaki Starks Malaki Starks 6'1" | 195 lbs | ATH Jefferson | 2022 State GA , perhaps our favorite DB on this list, s a CB who has already received 14 D1 offers as a 2022 prospect. This comes with no surprise due to Starks ability to play practically every skilled position in the game of football. His ability to be diverse only proves his understanding of the game of football. Starks, who projects well as a DB displays the ability to have good feet and change direction on the dime. This is huge for DB’s as they have to constantly adjust and change their leverage, flip their hips, and get out of breaks. Starks already does all of these things at a high level. With this, Starks has also show to run with an incredible stride, show off his twitch with the ball in his hands, and that he has the vision and nose for the ball that every coach is looking for. We expect Starks to continue to blow up during the 2020 season, and to eventually play for a big name program.
Andre Stewart Andre Stewart 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Brookwood | 2022 State GA – 6’0 169 Marietta
Auburn commit Andre Stewart Andre Stewart 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Brookwood | 2022 State GA showed out at Marietta during his Sophomore season, and looks to be able to build upon that in the 2020 season. Stewart, an explosive, and aggressive CB has already been able to play the game in a technically sound way. He shuffles well when the ball is snapped, and does not give too much ground when in coverage. He finds a way to stay in the hip pocket of receivers, and allows his placement to assist him in making plays on the ball. While he has a great burst and level of speed, improving upon how he gets out of his breaks and transitions will take him to the next level. With these things, his ability to play physically, and with good leverage will definitely transition well into the SEC level of play. Auburn fans should be excited to see how this pans out for them!
J.Q. Hardaway J.Q. Hardaway 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB Hardaway | 2022 GA – 6’0 145 Hardaway
One of the things that stands out right away about J.Q. Hardaway J.Q. Hardaway 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB Hardaway | 2022 GA is his length for a 2022 DB. His long wingspan allows him to make plays on the ball, and to be able give himself an extra line of defense when in coverage. With this, Hardaway has a solid change of direction skills, but we would also like to see him work on his transition steps to eliminate wasted movement. Hardaway also displays the ability to sink and bend well, causing him to be fluid when moving around in coverage, making it even easier to be explosive. While Hardaway looks to have a big season in 2020, look for him to continue to make a name for himself and to add more offers to his current list of 14 D1 offers. His ability to play man and zone coverage effectively will draw a great amount of attention, so do not be surprised if he finds himself in a position to eventually commit to a Power 5 program.
