Continue ReadingIn our spotlight series, we have continued to put the spotlight on different players, and position groups throughout the state of Georgia. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading these player’s evaluations half as much as we have enjoyed writing them, and watching their film. As the 2020 high school football season is quickly approaching, this time, we would like to give the proper attention to a few of the defensive linemen in the class of 2022. Below, we have listed a few of the prospects that we believe you should start getting excited about, and that you should start keeping an eye during their junior season.
Sho Mitchell Sho Mitchell 6'3" | 280 lbs | DL Buford | 2022 State GA (DT) 6’1 262 Buford
So far, Sho Mitchell Sho Mitchell 6'3" | 280 lbs | DL Buford | 2022 State GA has not collected any big time offers, but it would come as no surprise if he finds himself having a good junior year, with a few Group of 5 schools reaching out to him. Mitchell displays an explosive lower body, with a good lower body frame as well. This is a key factor for success when playing the DT position that he does. Michell also shows the ability to play the 3 Technique, while being able to effectively fill gaps and stop the run at the line. He has a great ability read the run and react right away, so we feel it is only a matter of time before he starts gaining more attention. His developing athleticism will help him to continue to develop, and to be able to use his leverage in an even better way moving forward in his football career.
Horace Lockett Horace Lockett 6'3" | 265 lbs | DL Westlake | 2022 State GA (DE/DT)- 6’3 265 Westlake
Horace Lockett Horace Lockett 6'3" | 265 lbs | DL Westlake | 2022 State GA has already gained the attention of major college programs and has picked up offers from schools such as Alabama, Tennessee, Oregon, and Louisville. The reasons for these offers are undeniable. Lockett, as a 2022 prospect, already has a long, and tall athletic build. His athleticism allows him to move sideline to sideline very well when necessary and to make plays in pursuit. Off of the line, Lockett has displayed the ability to dip and rip, and use his arms to gain leverage to get to the ball carrier. his above average ability to read the run also puts him in a good place to make plays on the ball carrier. During his junior season, look for him to continue to be effective in stopping the run game, and to also start inching towards a decision on where he plays college football.
Joshua White Joshua White 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Cedar Grove | 2022 State GA (DE)- 6’2 215 Columbia
Perhaps our favorite player on this list, Joshua White Joshua White 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Cedar Grove | 2022 State GA has a few offers from schools like Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and Ohio State. His developmental frame and ability has already proven to be attractive to college coaches, making it very interesting to see how his decision going into college will play out. White, a very fluid athlete, uses his hands very well, and displays the ability to have short area quickness. With this, he is very explosive off of the ball, with a methodical approach each time he rushes the passer. While we would like to see him rush from a three point stance, we can accurately assess that he is very effective coming off of the ball from a two point stance as well. White does not waste much movement, making him even more effective whenever he is sticking to his assignments. We here at PrepRedzone are very excited for his junior season, and we suggest you check out his film and jump on the bandwagon before it is too late!
