Both Dyson and Alvarez are two-way players, and very well may stick to the defensive side of the ball, but for this article we are focusing strictly on their OL skills.
Outlook: Both Dyson and Alvarez have the potential to play at the next level, but it will be at the DIII level. Each possess good traits and abilities that enable them to succeed, Dyson with power and Alvarez with athleticism and quickness, but neither are polished products.
Malcolm Dyson (Bremen HS)- Good height and solid weight, thick, proportioned with some definition. Strictly a power G, who is going to work in a Man scheme. Vs. Run, solid get off, coupled with good play strength allow him to be effective. Is going to win and be effective based solely on his ability to drive legs and overpower defenders. His key to success in the run game is going to be locking hands into chest plate early, in order to control defender. When he doesn’t get locked on, isn’t going to have the foot quickness to adjust and get body square to defenders. Vs. Pass, stationary player, who will win if he shoots hands quickly off snap to gain initial positioning. Needs to get hands on defenders first in order to use leverage, and strength to compete throughout play. Overall, a player who’s success is defined with his get off. He has athleticism and ability at his size, but he has room to develop body. With continued development his quickness and agility should improve to allow him to be a more versatile G.
Jayden Alvarez (Crystal Lake Central HS)- Solid height and weight, buff, trim, proportioned with definition. He will be able to play in a Zone or Man scheme. Shows good get off and burst off the snap. Good foot quickness to beat OL across face in Zone or get into OL chest with hand punch in Man. He will be able to work in space within either scheme, and shows good body control allowing him to breakdown and square up defenders. Solid hips in order to open and pull or scrape with little wasted movements. Vs. Pass, shows good foot quickness in order to mirror defenders, and has the athletic ability to slide with ease. His biggest concern at G is going to be his size and ability to anchor against larger defenders. Overall, a good athlete who has potential on the offensive side of the ball, but will need to continue building his body. His athletic ability makes him an interesting project that may ultimately see him moving to OC, if he can add weight while maintaining his athleticism.
