With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Cade Eichmeyer – Bondurant-Farrar
At the controls of the Bondurant-Farrar offense will be Class of 2021’s Cade Eichmeyer.
Last year, Eichmeyer completed 48 of 87 passes for 639 yards with a pair of touchdowns. He added another 431 yards and six scores on the ground, averaging almost six yards per carry.
Following the graduation of 1,120-yard rusher Kaeden Lozano, you can bet the offense will be run through Eichmeyer this fall.
Nic Goodhue – Carlisle
When Carlisle needed a big offensive play, they looked to Nic Goodhue.
Goodhue ran for 1,268 yards on 183 carries last year, averaging almost seven yards per rush with 12 touchdowns. He also hauled in 11 passes for 141 yards, which ranked third on the team in both categories.
On defense, Goodhue recorded 63.5 tackles including 51 solo stops with seven tackles for loss and a sack.
Kieren Nichols – Knoxville
A standout on the basketball court, Kieren Nichols also returns to lead Knoxville on the gridiron.
Nichols threw for 539 yards with four touchdowns while adding 670 yards and eight scores on the ground. He completed 47 of 95 passes and averaged 11.5 yards per completion.
He also saw time on defense with 20 tackles and averaged almost 15 yards per kickoff return for the Panthers.
Ryan Mace Ryan Mace 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Pella | 2021 IA – Pella
Pella overcame a 2-2 start to win six in a row and reach the Class 3A state quarterfinals last year.
The Dutch have plenty back to work with including quarterback Ryan Mace Ryan Mace 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Pella | 2021 IA , who threw for 1,735 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Mace completed 103 of 211 passes, averaging almost 17 yards per completion. He also ran for another 202 and had five scores while handling punting duties at almost 38 yards per kick.
Aaron Downs – Pella
How about this for production. Aaron Downs from Pella touched the football 109 times last year and produced 15 touchdowns with an average of just under 10 yards per touch.
Downs had 841 yards rushing and 14 scores while catching 12 more passes for 246 yards and a score. That’s 8.7 yards per rush and 20.5 yards per catch.
He also played defense, picking off two passes and converted three two-point conversions.
Caden Jones – Nevada
Last year, Caden Jones racked up 812 yards and eight scores as part of a 2,226-yard rushing unit at Nevada.
Jones, who averaged just over six yards per carry, also had eight receptions for 104 yards and another score. He added 35.5 tackles including nine stops for loss and three sacks on defense.
