The two-day event at ThunderRidge High School was a preseason training opportunity for high school players to work on skill development in preparation for a hopeful 2020 football season.
Player from all over the country attended, the weather was hot and the action was fun to watch. Let’s take a look at a few quarterbacks in the Class of 2021 who stood out.
Zachary Kapushion, 6’2, 200 lbs, Broomfield High
At 6-foot-2, Kapushion has a big, strong frame and the arm talent needed to sling the ball down the field with velocity and accuracy. The team leader for his high school team, he led the Eagles to the Class 4A state championship game and a runner-up finish in 2019 while throwing for 1,409 yards and 17 touchdowns in a run-heavy Broomfield offense. With several talented receiving threats back in the mix this year, look for Kapushion to have a big senior season while the Eagles look for a return to the final game.
Jordan Woolverton Jordan Woolverton 6'2" | QB Durango | 2021 State CO , 6’2, 185 lbs, Durango High
Among the most dynamic athletes among the quarterbacks at the camp, Woolverton also plays safety and had a pick-six against Pueblo South in last year’s Class 3A state quarterfinals. The senior quarterback shined, as expected, in footwork drills and showed off his ability to throw accurately on the run to both sides of his body. In his career at Durango, the dual-threat standout has passed for 4,525 yards and rushed for 1,226 yards for a total of 67 total touchdowns in 32 career games.
Weston Wolkov, 6’2, 180 lbs, Denver South
Relatively unknown because he has played most of his prep career behind an established starter at Denver South, Wolkov received glowing reviews from the camp coaches for being coachable and having a tireless work ethic to improve. Wolkov makes good reads and delivered the ball on time and accurately in camp drills with wide receivers.
“There’s not a lot of camps right now so this was great,” Wolkov said. “I can’t really control all that much so I’m just trying to do everything I can so I can hopefully have a good senior year.”
Nicholas Petty, 6’0, 180, Eldorado High (New Mexico)
Patty traveled a good distance for last weekend’s camp and it certainly wasn’t a waste of time for the soon-to-be senior. Another player with good timing and accuracy, Petty showed good arm strength and the ability to throw an accurately deep ball down the sideline in 1-on-1 drills with receivers and defensive backs. Petty played in four games as a junior, throwing for 331 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions.
