Camp season is back and we have another preview, this time for Saturday’s Elite Underclassman Showcase at Matthews Sportsplex. The event, livestreamed for college coaches, is for the classes of 2021-2025 and has a mix of established recruits and talented players without offers yet.
The camp will have players from all over the country, but the bulk of the attendees come from the Tar Heel state. We’ll highlight a few of our favorites here.
Jordan Poole Jordan Poole 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB West Stanley | 2021 NC , 6’ 215, West Stanley, LB
The headliner of the camp is our No. 21 overall prospect and No. 3 linebacker in the 2021 class. Poole is an athletic linebacker that will be an impact defender at the Power Five level. Poole is down to South Carolina, Virginia Tech and NC State, but delayed his scheduled July 1 announcement. Poole loves to compete and we love his game, he’ll stand out in drills and one-on-ones.
Nathan Linkous Nathan Linkous 6'5" | 295 lbs | OL Stuart W. Cramer | 2021 State NC , 6’5 295, Stuart W. Cramer, OL
We’ve highlighted Linkous in our Reason for the Rankings and our breakdown of UNC Charlotte’s recruiting. Already a talented player, Linkous has used this extended offseason to reshape his body and put in work in the weightroom. Linkous has gotten bigger and stronger and already looks like a college lineman. We’re excited to see him in a camp setting for the first time.
Tyrell Davis Tyrell Davis 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Hickory Ridge | 2021 State NC , 6’1 180, Hickory Ridge, DB
One of our top 2021 safety prospects in the state, Davis is a strong-bodied ball hawk with offers from dozens of schools. He’ll likely play at the Group of Five level but he has Power Five talent. Davis doesn’t necessarily win with athleticism, but we’ll be shocked if he’s not one of the top 2-3 defensive backs at the camp.
RJ Jackson, 6’ 180, Anson, WR
We haven’t written much about Jackson, but we love his game. A coach’s kid, Jackson is a student of the game and he wins in a variety of ways. He excels after the catch and uses his athleticism to beat defenders on both deep routes and short in-breaking routes. Jackson recently committed to Campbell and we think he’s a great fit for the Camels.
Exciting Underclassman Attendees:
Stephan Zayachkowski, 5’9 185, Porter Ridge, LB, 2023
Owen McCown, 6’1 165, Myers Park, QB, 2022
David Neal, 6’2 220, Camden County, DL, 2023
Zane Bostick, 6’2 230, West Cabarrus, DL, 2025
