With great quarterback play comes the need and development of great pass rushers. A few were on display on Sunday at Mount Pisgah Christian Academy.
Here are a few names that jumped off the turf.
Jonathan Brown, 6’3” 230 pounds, defensive end, Riverwood High School (2021)
Brown led the state with 21 sacks. That was an impressive stat before he ever stepped on the turf on Sunday. He proceeded to win every one-on-one pass rush repetition he took part in.
He won them a few different ways. Brown is fast. He was able to earn a few wins with his explosive first two steps. His get off is smooth and without a lot of noise.

His 6’ 10” wingspan keeps linemen at bay and creates separation for him to use his speed to blaze around the edge and bend the corner.
He’s not just a lanky speed rusher. Brown seems to have added some weight to his frame since the 2019 football season ended.
Equipped with more size and strength tackles will be beaten many times worrying about Brown’s speed and shocked when he bulrushes them inside and uses his natural quickness to explode into the quarterback. Brown’s a big-time talent that’s ready for a breakout on a more national scale. Leading the state of Georgia is a feat. Brown’s talent going to be one to watch over the next year to see where his skyrocketing ability takes him.

Benton isn’t a secret. This evaluation won’t be long. It can be as simple as the old coaches saying. “That’s what they look like.”
When you cut out and edge rusher in the SEC, a picture of Benton shows up. He’s got the size and the explosive first and second steps.
Benton was barely touched in pass rushing one-on-ones on Sunday.

He showed the ability to fool the linemen with multiple plans of attack. For a young player, Benton is already polished in his pass rushing ability. It’s natural and smooth. Benton plays with an admirable bounce. He could be seen hustling back to position after every rep. There wasn’t any talking or chest-pounding. He just did his job.
He’ll be a name mentioned around the southern parts of the country for another seven or eight years and then potentially on Sundays.
