Continue ReadingThe 2022 class isn’t just top heavy with the dozen or so FBS level players. It is also an extremely deep class. The next five that we are looking into here are five players from the 2022 class that I believe have the best chance of receiving a scholarship offer from any level. Some of the athletes in this list could even receive FBS level interest, but I expect the majority of their interest to come from the D2- FCS range of schools. These kids already have impressive tape and the sky is the limit for them with two more years of growth and development ahead of them. Let’s take a look at what these players bring to the table and what will grab teams’ attention at the next level.
Jack Dotzler Jack Dotzler 6'7" | 265 lbs | OL Waunakee | 2022 State WI – Waunakee, Offensive Line
Jack offers an elite frame. A frame that already has really nice size, and the best part is that it looks like he can comfortably hold the additional weight needed at the next level. He has long arms that make it hard for defenders to use their hands to get free because they usually can’t get their hands on him first. In the pass game, Dotzler is a dancing bear. He kick slides smoothly, mirrors defenders, and when he sets his anchor there aren’t many defenders who can get him off balance with a bull rush. In the run game, Jack is a powerful player. He consistently resets the line of scrimmage by driving defenders off the ball and finishing them. Jack has a ton of talent to work with and I believe he will be a highly sought after recruit over the next year.
Gabe Rousseau Gabe Rousseau 6'3" | 275 lbs | OL Stoughton | 2022 State WI – Stoughton, Offensive Line
Rousseau is impressively sound with his technique, but my favorite part of his game is that Gabe is a mentality setter. He does out every snap looking to dominate and beat up his defender on every snap. It is infection. I was getting hyped just watching him. While he is playing with that mentality he does an amazing job of keeping near perfect technique for that age. He plays with a wide and strong base, he keeps his hands inside on the defender’s chest, and he controls his man. In the run game, Rousseau uses that great technique to drive guys off the line and finish them. He also has enough athleticism to pull and hit his target. In the pass game, he is a pillar when he sets his anchor. As soon as he sinks his hips its over for the rush on that play. He also is the size on the interior to make it hard to go around him and his strength makes it so its hard to go through him. Gabe is going to be so fun to watch the next couple seasons and his recruitment will be fun to watch develop.
Max Rader Max Rader 6'6" | 250 lbs | OL Green Bay Notre Dame | 2022 State WI – Green Bay Notre Dame, Tight End
Wow. That is all I could say when I saw what Max looked like on his first snap of his film. He is huge and athletic. He doesn’t have a ton of film in the receiving game, but he is a game changer in the run game. Rader is essentially an extra offensive lineman. His recruiting will be interesting because if he continues to put on size he could actually transition to offensive line and be one of the more athletic big men in the entire state. He already has the nasty mentality in the run game. If he could solidify his technique by working on keeping his hands inside on the defender’s chest plate he could be even more of a force to be reckoned with. He will have to develop as a pass blocker also, but the potential is hard to look past. As a TE, Max is one of the best run blockers in the state, and his size makes him a great mismatch in the pass game. I can’t wait to watch what he does going forward.
Matthew Schecklman Matthew Schecklman 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Appleton North | 2022 State WI – Appleton North, Quarterback
Matthew is the best pocket passer of his class and might be the best one in the state as well. He already has prototypical size at roughly 6’3″ 195 lbs. He has a good arm that is only going to get stronger. His best traits as a passer are his spot on accuracy and his touch on passes to every level of the field. The fact that he doesn’t have the strongest arm right now probably is the best thing for his development because he has relied on his accuracy and touch instead of blasting the ball into windows. With that being said he does have already sufficient arm strength. He can put the ball almost anywhere it needs to be on the field. Matthew’s footwork is also very impressive for his age. His feet are so quick and he keeps them connected to his eyes making so that he is essentially always ready to throw the ball at any moment. Within a year I expect his list of interested schools to be plentiful.
Luna Larson Luna Larson 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Baraboo | 2022 State WI – Baraboo, Linebacker
Luna is a beast! He is a playmaker and then a linebacker. He is all over the field and both sides of the ball. While he does play on both sides, Luna plays the best and has the best traits for the linebacker position. He athleticism is eye opening, especially when he checks in around 6’2″ and 200+ lbs. When he blitzes along the interior he looks like he is shot out of a cannon and is almost untouchable for offensive linemen. Luna has also shown that he can rush off the edge successfully too. Against the run game he turns that athleticism into short area agility as he picks through the mess in front of him as makes tackles at the line of scrimmage and he has the limitless range to go sideline to sideline and pursue from anywhere on the field. Larson’s versatility is wild for an athlete just about to enter his junior season. Luna makes you remember him as a tackler. He runs through ball carriers. It’s like he doesn’t lose any speed when he makes contact. He goes right through them. This is exactly the type of defensive playmaker that colleges look for. He is going to be a top recruit in the next year or so.
