While the 2021 class hasn’t been as deep as in years past, there is still plenty of talent to take note of in the class. With that, here are five quarterbacks in the 2021 class from the eastern side of the Keystone State that are flying under the radar heading into this fall.
Joey McCracken – Warwick
McCracken was one of the state’s leading passers last season with 2,911 passing yards and 27 touchdowns while leading Warwick Warriors to a 10-3 record last season. McCracken will look to lead a talented Warwick team this upcoming season with a team that could compete for a state championship. So far in his recruitment, McCracken has been receiving interest from both FCS and FBS programs. McCracken has good size at 6-foot-3 and 190-pounds to pair with quality arm strength and accuracy. He does have the ability to take off and make plays with his feet in necessary as well.
Ethan Adams Ethan Adams 5'10" | 170 lbs | QB Lake-Lehman | 2021 PA – Lake-Lehman
One of our top-150 prospects in the state, Lake-Lehman quarterback Ethan Adams Ethan Adams 5'10" | 170 lbs | QB Lake-Lehman | 2021 PA is coming off a great junior season for the Knights, throwing for 2,700-yards while rushing for an additional 450-yards for a total of 30 touchdowns. Adams is a bit undersized by traditional standards at 5-foot-11 but with the recent success of smaller quarterbacks, that should be no setback for the senior signal-caller. The left-handed passer shows good arm strength and quality accuracy but will need to improve the zip on his ball going forward. Adams has received interest from Division III programs so far such as Alvernia and Washington & Jefferson.
Lek Powell Lek Powell 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Bishop McDevitt | 2021 PA – Bishop McDevitt
Bishop McDevitt has a history of churning out quarterback prospects and Powell looks to be the next one up in that line of quarterbacks. Last year for the Royal Lancers, McDevitt completed 61% of his passes for 2,054-yards and 18 touchdowns. As a player, Powell shows off ample off strength and good enough accuracy though it will have to improve as he heads into his senior season and his future college career. If a play breaks down, Powell isn’t afraid to use his legs and can take off at any point turning potential sacks into long gains thanks to his plus athleticism for the position. A majority of the schools interested in Powell at this time appear to be Division II and Division III programs however there are a few FCS programs that appear to be showing interest in the Bishop McDevitt senior.
Gavin McCusker – Exeter
As a junior, McCusker threw for just over 2,000-yards last season to go along with 24 touchdowns. He possesses good arm strength and accuracy while also showing the ability to throw the ball on the run with quality accuracy. He does need to improve in throwing ahead of his receivers a bit more but overall there’s a lot to like about McCusker’s abilities and style. On the ground, he does have the ability to keep the ball and run, showing ample speed. McCusker has received one scholarship offer so far, that offer coming from FCS program Morehead State.
Anthony Giordano Anthony Giordano 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Central Bucks East | 2021 PA – Central Bucks East
Giordano is coming a quality junior season for Central Bucks East, passing for just under 2,000-yards and 11 touchdowns. He shows good arm strength and accuracy while having nice velocity on the ball. Like a few other quarterbacks on this list, Giordano is a quarterback who doesn’t shy away from running the ball and does have the ability to pick up valuable yardage on both designed runs and when plays breakdown. So far in his recruitment, Giordano has received interest from top in-state FCS programs such as Bucknell, Lehigh, Penn, and Villanova.
Honorable Mention:
Since we highlighted him yesterday in our Under the Radar Prospects from the East Penn Conference, we decided not to highlight 2021 QB Joe Kerbacher – Northampton. That being said, Kerbacher is very much so another under the radar quarterback on the eastern side of the Keystone State entering this season. Here’s what we said about the Northampton quarterback;
“Kerbacher is an exciting dual-threat quarterback prospect who didn’t make our initial state rankings but is definitely someone to keep an eye on in 2020. He has the legs to extend passing plays to allow his wide receivers to get open but also has the speed to take off at any moment and hurt opposing defenses on the ground. While not the biggest kid, he doesn’t shy away from contact either but does a good job overall of avoiding contact thanks to his athleticism. Overall, he has a quality arm with good arm strength and shows off at times some terrific touch, he’ll need to improve the consistency of his touch but overall shows great potential. He’s mostly been receiving interest from Division II and Division III programs.”
Tomorrow, we’ll take a look at five under the radar running backs in eastern Pennsylvania.
