This list is not completely composed of quarterbacks but man do we have some great ones on this list. Enjoy as we unveil the top hidden gems going into this 2020 season in the Youngstown area.
6. At number 6 we have Timothy Caffey Timothy Caffey 5'11" | 200 lbs | RB Hubbard | 2022 OH out of Hubbard high school. Timothy (c/o 2022) is a 5’11 195lb RB with a ton of upside. As a sophomore he carried much of the load on offense running with purpose and having a nose for the end zone. On his film his vision and patience stands out as a runner and this is impressive as only a sophomore. As he matures even more he will undoubtedly emerge as one of the top playmakers in the area. He will get better as his trajectory is one that is on the rise. Hubbard opens scrimmage play @ Warren Howland August 7th starting at 7pm. 5. One of the purest passers I’ve evaluated thus far Brady Shannon Brady Shannon 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Ursuline | 2022 OH quarterback out of Ursuline high school c/o 2022. Brady another underclassmen cracking the list standing at 6’2 190 I have no doubt he will burst onto the scene soon. As a sophomore he shared duties behind the center but played most of the QB snaps. He stands tall in the pocket and delivers the ball with strength and accuracy. His arm strength as a sophomore is something to behold. I look for Brady to have a big junior season throwing to his #1. target and fellow QB Matthew Reardon who happens to be one of the best route runners around. Youngstown Ursuline will open their season at home against Columbus Bishop Hartley with a 7pm kickoff. 4. If you love defensive football, you will love Michael Pastella (c/o 2021) standing at 6’0 205lbs out Cardinal Mooney high school. The passion and intensity this kid plays with at the middle linebacker position is top notch. He is a total technician that read and reacts to the ball. He covers well and tackles well in space too. What I love about Michael the most is the aggressive nature of his tackles. He runs through ball carriers and not to ball carriers. Did I mention he even plays a little receiver? I don’t know if it is even possible to say he will have an even bigger impact on his Cardinal Mooney football team but I’m going to go out on a limb and say he will. I expect a monstrous season with plenty of accolades attached. Cardinal Mooney opens the season vs Youngstown Chaney with the location and time to still be announced. 3. At number 3 this guy could have easily been at the top spot of my list with the type of numbers he has put up. Devin Sherwood Devin Sherwood 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Austintown Fitch | 2022 OH (c/o 2022) out of Austintown Fitch led the Falcons at the QB position rushing for 787 yards and breaking a school record passing for 1,445 yards scoring a total of 23 touchdowns. At 5’11 175 the impressive Sherwood boasts a 3.7 GPA and runs a 4.7 40 yard dash and have a max squat of 315lbs. Devin is clearly a dual threat at QB and was probably the most impressive sophomore in the state. As a junior he will only get better and I expect him to continue to put up big numbers. Austintown Fitch has their first scrimmage vs Akron East August 7th at home starting at 7pm. Check out Devin’s impressive film https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11238843/5dcdbcc2bd6ad10cf0d709ba
2. These final two picks were tough but a decision had to be made. At number two I have Aiden Hall out of Struthers high school Aiden is a straight up athlete and when you watch his film it looks as if he is moving at a different speed than everyone else. It was big play after big play he was all over the field on offense and defense. He plays some snaps at receiver but it was clear he was most dangerous as a dual threat QB for Struthers. He is must see television. I can not stress enough the big play ability he has with the speed, quickness and vision he has that can turn what looks like a 3 yard gain to a 80 yard touchdown. Struthers opens with a scrimmage at home vs Salem on August 13th at 10am. Check out his explosive highlights from last season https://www.hudl.com/profile/11861016/Aiden-Hall
- The top spot belongs to Chaney high school’s Delshawn Petroski (c/o 2021). Delshawn is a 6’1 180lb athlete . He received all state honors as a sophomore at the safety position and as a junior he earned all state honors as junior. It is safe to say this kid is a ball player. To add to his impressive on field accolades he will also graduate from high school with his associates degree. Delshawn currently holds offers from Youngstown State, Kent State and Kentucky. I expect the rest of the FBS schools in the region offer as well as he continues his outstanding high school career. Delshawn is described as an alpa male and leader in the locker room and I expect him to lead his team to some big things this year. Chaney opens up the season vs Cardinal Mooney with the location and time to still be announced.
