LPI Showcase Top Performers: OL’s
Overview:
On Saturday, July 25th, I attended the Lemming Prep Insider Showcase & observed positional drills, along with 1 on 1’s. The group as a whole was really impressive and loaded with talent from the 2021 class all the way to the 2023 class. There were multiple prospects who attended the showcase who already hold FBS offers and even more who are bound to pick up some in the near future. Here were the offensive linemen who stood out on Saturday.
Sam Rummel, Winnebago, 6’4, 295, SR
This is a big man who moves very well for his size. He did a good job in positional drills working double teams up to the second level & was clearly one of the best offensive linemen at the camp. I liked his film, but I liked him even more in person. Definite sleeper in the 2021 class.
Mike Gatz, Marian Central Catholic, 6’3, 280, SR
This is a true center prospect with overall good size and athletic ability. He performed well during 1 on 1’s and showed he’s as tough as they come. I think he showed he’s athletic enough to not only play center but also guard at the next level.
Eli Andresen, Hampshire, 6’4, 275, SR
This tackle prospect dominated from start to finish. Eli has great burst off the ball and wins at the point of attack. He’s got an adequate punch and had strong technique all afternoon. I was very impressed by his patience in pass protection, as he let things develop in front of him and didn’t lunge at defenders.
Jimmy Liston Jimmy Liston 6'4" | 310 lbs | OL Fenwick | 2022 State IL , Fenwick, 6’3, 300, JR
Liston is a mauler and, to me, a definite division one prospect. He was technically sound in positional drills and showed his aggressive style of play during 1 on 1’s. His ability to retrace & move laterally during pass protection could be one of the more underrated aspects of his game.
Clayton Leonard Clayton Leonard 6'5" | 265 lbs | OL Iroquois West | 2022 State IL , Iroquois West, 6’5, 260, JR
Leonard was one kid I was really looking forward to seeing after he battled back from a tough injury. The kid did not miss a beat, and I must say he is every bit of 6’5. Clayton showed his knee is completely healed and that he can flat-out play. I was impressed by his change of direction in individual drills and how quickly he was able to get his second step in the ground. Big things are coming for this young man.
Luke Dalton, Marian Central Catholic, 6’5, 285, JR
Dalton started as a sophomore for Marian Central Catholic, and I must say his film was superb. Dalton played mean at the showcase but made sure his technique was up to par. He showed spectacular strength in positional drills and a punch that featured a lot of pop. Dalton should see his recruiting take off very soon.
Nathan Henry, Aurora Christian, 6’2, 250, JR
Henry can move like a deer, and it was evident during positional drills. He lives for pulling type situations and when he hits the pad you can hear it. His best trait could be his pass pro, he’s light on his feet and understands twists and movements.
Jacob Welch Jacob Welch 6'6" | 285 lbs | OL Johnsburg | 2023 State IL , Johnsburg, 6’5, 265, SO
I think this kid is the best player to come out of Johnsburg since former Houston Texans tight end CJ Fiedorowicz. Welch has all the tools you look for in an offensive lineman, size, strength, quickness and a nasty streak. Welch played very well during 1 on 1’s, despite being one of the youngest guys there. If he continues to develop, he’ll be a major division one recruit.
Hunter Schrock, St. Thomas More Prep (CT), 6’3, 285, FR
Schrock played his high school ball at Maroa Forsyth, before moving on to St. Thomas More Prep in Connecticut. Hunter showed his ability early and often at the showcase. He shined all afternoon and seemed to be one of the prime examples during positional drills. He’s a center through and through, he consistently had good snaps, and I was impressed by the turnover in his leg drive. Hunter is a nasty finisher who plays really smart football.
Other Prospects Who Stood Out
Max Jablonski, Wheaton Warrenville South, 6’3, 295, JR
Elijah Edwards, Michele Clark, 6’3, 320, JR
Tyler Wood, St. Francis, 6’3, 250, SO
Grzegorz Krupa, Taft, 6’1, 240, SO
