On Saturday, July 25th, I attended the Lemming Prep Insider Showcase & observed positional drills, along with 1 on 1’s. The group as a whole was really impressive and loaded with talent from the 2021 class all the way to the 2023 class. There were multiple prospects who attended the showcase who already hold FBS offers and even more who are bound to pick up some in the near future. Here were the QB’s who stood out on Saturday.
Quarterback
Hunter Simmons Hunter Simmons 6'4" | 215 lbs | QB Marion | 2021 IL , Marion, 6’4, 215, SR
I had a close friend walk up to me during the showcase and ask, “Who is that kid? He’s got a cannon!”. Well, that kid was Hunter Simmons Hunter Simmons 6'4" | 215 lbs | QB Marion | 2021 IL and he sure did. The ball jumped out of his hand all-day and he looked like the best QB at the event. I think his stock is going to rise and he could end up being a Division one kid.
Eli Downen, Carterville, 6’4, 210, SR
I had only seen Eli Downen on film and had yet to see his frame in person. The kid was every bit of 6’4 and looks like he could easily get up to 235. He showed phenomenal footwork at the event and threw a really clean ball. He’s someone I’m going to have my eye on, his senior tape will be crucial.
Vincenzo Meschi, Bolingbrook, 6’2, 190, SR
Bolingbrook’s newest QB threw the ball very well in 1 on 1’s. I was really impressed by his poise & ability to be coached. The stage was never too big for him and he always bounced back from a down rep. Right now, he’s a sleeper because he split time last fall at Batavia, but I envision that changing after his senior year. The future is very bright for Mr. Meschi.
Jay Lemenager, Clifton Central, 6’, 190, SR
Probably the most athletic QB at the event, and could end up playing multiple other positions at the next level. He threw the ball extremely well on the run and you could see the pure burst when he was asked to step up and make throws off-schedule. This is a small school kid, with a ton of athleticism and production. His team, Clifton Central will be one of the favorites in Class 2A.
Philip Hird, Warren, 6’2, 190, SR
Hird is a really intriguing prospect and showed a very high football IQ at the event. His accuracy is uncanny and he was able to make a bunch of tough throws in positional drills. He split time last fall, while helping lead Warren to a State Title game appearance, and could have a monster year as a senior.
Luke Longval Luke Longval 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Sioux City East | 2022 State IA , Sioux City East (IA), 6’2, 185, JR
Our #2 Overall QB in the state of Iowa showed up and showed out. Longval was magnificent throwing on the run and constantly squared his shoulders to his target. He aired it out all afternoon in 1 on 1’s and was one of the best at the event. He recently transferred from Bishop Heelan to Sioux City East and should be among the state’s best signal-callers, regardless of class.
Ryan Hampton, Edwardsville, 6’1, 175, SR
I got sent the tape of Hampton right before the showcase and I’m glad I was! I have no clue how this guy wasn’t on my radar because the talent is definitely there. Hampton showed good accuracy on all three levels and was in sync with the random wideouts that were thrown at him. He’s one of the state’s biggest sleepers and he could add to his offer list very soon.
Tyler Turner, Phillips, 6’3, 210, JR
I had been hearing a lot of buzz about Turner for a couple of months, and he most certainly lived up to the hype. He’s put together at 6’2, 210 and can really sling it. He showed his arm strength during 1 on 1’s and completed one of the most impressive throws off the day, which was an intermediate throw on the run across his body. I think his junior film will be stellar and his recruiting will take off.
Kevin Zimmer Kevin Zimmer 6'3" | 230 lbs | QB Sandburg | 2022 State IL , Carl Sandburg, 6’3, 230, JR
This kid’s ball has a ton of zip on it. Zimmer has a great frame and looked really put together for only a junior. He moved really well in positional drills and showed he can make the tough throws. Right now, we have Zimmer listed as a tight end, but the reality is, this kid could easily play quarterback if colleges want him to. His overall athleticism was evident throughout and I think that could be his best trait.
Keegan Glover, Benton, 6’, 170, JR
Glover put together a heck of a sophomore campaign, one that saw him have 30 total touchdowns. He came to the LPI Showcase and really impressed me with his ability to make tight throws. He did a solid job during positions drills but really stood out during 1 on 1’s with his deep ball accuracy. He’s definitely someone to keep an eye on entering his junior season.
Other QB’s Who Stood Out
Bruno Bosman, Huntley, 6’, 195, SR
Brett Galletti, Lincoln-Way East, 6’1, 200, SR
Aidan Pieper, St. Charles North, 6’2, 180, JR
Luke Chandler, Chaminade Julienne (OH), 6’2, 190, JR
