On Saturday, July 25th, I attended the Lemming Prep Insider Showcase & observed positional drills, along with 1 on 1’s. The group as a whole was really impressive and loaded with talent from the 2021 class all the way to the 2023 class. There were multiple prospects who attended the showcase who already hold FBS offers and even more who are bound to pick up some in the near future. Here were the RB’s, WR’s & TE’s who stood out on Saturday.
RB: Nasir Latham, Lane Tech, 5’8, 165, SR
This is a smaller but built running back prospect. I was very impressed with Latham’s burst & cutting ability. He had a very productive day and seemed to be among the best ball carriers at the entire showcase. He’s a kid I could see picking up some offers following his senior campaign.
RB: Preston Sumner, Carterville, 6’2, 195, SR
When you look at Preston Sumner you can’t help but be impressed by this kid’s frame. He’s a tall running back that is absolutely cut up! Sumner was not on my radar prior to this combine, but he most certainly is now. He dominated during 1 on 1’s and caught everything in sight. Based on his 2019 tape, it looks like he missed some time with injuries. Expect him to bounce back with a monster 2020 season and look for colleges to take notice.
TE: Cole Rusk Cole Rusk 6'6" | 220 lbs | TE Rock Island | 2021 IL , Rock Island, 6’6, 230, SR
Rusk was one of the most highly recruited prospects at the event. Cole had told me in a Q&A that he had put on weight, and after seeing him in person, he wasn’t joking. The kid has a great frame and an impressive catch radius. During 1 on 1’s he looked like a wide receiver and gave DB’s absolute fits. I think if Rusk shows on film this fall he can block inline, Power 5 offers will be coming.
TE: Kamden Wollard, Illinois Valley Central, 6’4, 210, SR
Wollard comes from a smaller school, but you can’t deny the production that he had, as he put up 689 yards receiving to go along with nine touchdowns. I was so impressed with his burst and ability to catch the ball away from his body. He played wide receiver last fall, but I think based on his frame and ability to block he could be a tight end at the next level.
TE: Jake Cicero, Glenbard North, 6’5, 240, SR
This was another guy I just found out about recently, and he put on a show Saturday. Cicero moves really well for a guy his size and is a natural hands catcher. He was consistent during positional drills and showed off the ability to high point the football. Definite sleeper to watch for moving forward.
WR: Micah Catron, Rich Central, 5’10, 160, SR
Throughout 1 on 1’s I kept looking at my sheet to see who #3 was. Carton caught deep ball after deep ball and continuously ran by defensive backs. He showed off great patience as a route runner and did an excellent job setting up DB’s to think he was going somewhere else. Carton’s burst was exceptional as he constantly broke DB’s cushions and forced them to open their hips early.
WR: Max Reese Max Reese 6'3" | 215 lbs | WR Fenwick | 2022 State IL , Fenwick, 6’3, 205, JR
Reese was the best 2022 prospect at the event and showed great speed, the ability to pluck the football out of the air, and exceptional route-running ability. Reese consistently went up against the best competition and dominated. Right now, he has 1 FBS offer from Kanas and I fully expect him to pick up a lot more.
WR: Tyler Bishop, St. Francis, 5’8, 170, JR
What he may lack in physical height, Bishop more than makes up for in quickness and burst. Bishop is a matchup nightmare in the slot and showed the ability to catch routes on all three levels. He was shifty after the catch and defenders struggled to tag him down. He’ll be a four-year starter for St. Francis when it’s all said and done.
WR: Brock Jewson, Crystal Lake South, 6’, 170, SR
I really like this kid on film and even more so in person. He’s a crafty route runner and understands how to leverage defensive backs. He’s got phenomenal football instincts and overall good build up speed. Keep an eye on him this fall.
WR: Ryan Sims, Marist, 6’3, 195, SO
I’ had seen Sims on Twitter, but had yet to see him in person. After seeing him at the showcase, I can honestly say this kid has a bright future. He’s got a muscular build and a really lengthy frame. He looks more like a tight end from a physical standpoint. He looked so smooth in positional drills and downright balled out during 1 on 1’s. I was shocked at how talented he was as a route runner for a guy who’s only going to be a sophomore.
Other Prospects Who Stood Out
RB: Taven Washington, Plainfield East, 6’1, 205, SR
WR: Ryan Doherty, St. Charles North, 6’, 190, SR
WR: Joe Kuthe, Stillman Valley, 6’1, 185, SR
TE: Anthony Cirrincione, South Elgin, 6’5, 220, SR
