This year, in one of the deepest classes North Carolina has ever produced, these five players all have Group of Five (or better) offers in hand and we expect big things from them.
95. Tylon Dunlap Tylon Dunlap 6'0" | 220 lbs | DL Harding | 2021 NC , 6’ 230, EDGE, Harding
Our 95th-ranked prospect had a monster junior season and offers from teams like Florida, Tennessee and Ole Miss; talk about a deep class! Dunlap finished 2019 with 19 sacks due to his explosion off the line and high motor. Dunlap lacks the ideal height for a Power Five defensive end, so some teams could decide to slide him inside, as he has the frame to put on weight about become a quick interior lineman. We still like him coming off the edge, where he’s more free to wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks.
94. Tama McDonough Tama McDonough 6'5" | 245 lbs | OL Asheville | 2021 State NC , 6’5 245, OL, Asheville
McDonough is an athletic 2-way lineman from Asheville. What he lacks in pure size he more than makes up for in athleticism and aggression. Just a couple of months ago, he received his first scholarship offer from Appalachian State and first-year head coach Shawn Clark. Clark is one of the best evaluators of offensive line talent in the country and soon after receiving the Mountaineer offer, McDonough had a host of others. We love McDonough’s upside at left tackle and think he could be a long-term cornerstone of a college offensive line.
93. Amaah Achina Amaah Achina 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Northern Guilford | 2021 State NC , 6’1 190 DB, Northern Guilford
A hard-hitting defender, Achina is versatile enough to play both corner and safety at the next level. He has a knack for making bone-jarring hits and we love the idea of him playing a hybrid safety-linebacker role at the next level. Achina is a high-character, high-academic player, with offers from multiple Ivy League schools, but he’s talented enough to play at the Group of Five level, should he choose to do so.
92. Ty Lyles Ty Lyles 5'11" | 210 lbs | QB East Forsythe | 2021 NC , 5’11 210, QB, East Forsythe
If Lyles were 6’3, he’d be a consensus 5-star recruit with offers from across the country. The kid can absolutely sling it. Throw in that he’s a threat on the ground too and you have one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the state. Lyles has offers from dozens of FCS schools but made an early pledge to Coastal Carolina. If the Chanticleers can keep him in the fray, they’ll have their starter for the next few years.
91. Kiylan Miller Kiylan Miller 6'3" | 170 lbs | ATH Chase | 2021 State NC , 6’3 175, Ath, Chase
Miller has a good combination of 6’3″-size and sub-4.6 speed. He plays all over the field for Chase, from corner to wide receiver to center fielder in single-high sets. A lot of schools are looking at Miller as a receiver, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see him play some sort of free safety role in college. He’s dangerous with the ball in his hands and has a knack for making big plays, wherever he lines up. Miller holds offers from several FBS schools and we wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a Power Five school reaching out with an offer at some point.
