At that time when I came out to Mound, M-W head coach Nick David also informed me of one of their top prospects, Logan Leonard. PRZ Minnesota chatted with Logan in regards to his 2019 season, where he’s at in his recruiting search, and what the White Hawks are up to in pursuit of in the 2020 season.
Get to Know Logan Leonard
Leonard plays on both sides of the football at safety and wide receiver. He also is a prospect that you can move around the field and he will be just as useful, such as positions like quarterback and tight end. His focus this offseason was speed training, which he does with Inspired Athletx out of Plymouth. His biggest strengths on the football field are is he has a strong work ethic and his football IQ is something else. Although Leonard stands about 6’3, he has an athletic build and isn’t lanky like most kids of his size and weight at 180 pounds. Leonard also a quick learner, and picks up new tricks on the football field faster than most.
Bests About Logan’s Two Positions
At the safety position, Leonard enjoys playing the pass and run which gives him a strong base in both avenues defensively. As for the wide receiver, like most receivers, Leonard loves catching the long passes the most and also loves throwing blocks for his teammates when he doesn’t have the football.
College Interest
Leonard has mostly fielded interest from local and regional Division II and III programs across the Midwest. He also has had a late run of recruiting interest from NDSU, SDSU, and the newest Minnesota school to Division I football, the St. Thomas Tommies of the Pioneer League. Logan is also a fine student at Mound-Westonka with a 3.97 GPA.
As for Logan’s elevator pitch, he had this to say to the coaches that might be listening:
My pitch for any college coach is and I am an extremely hard worker and that can be demonstrated in both academics and my athletic achievements. I am also looked on as a leader on both my team and in my community, which will translate over to any college team I may play on. Lastly, I have a nose for the ball. Whether it’s tackling a man in the open field or going up for a contested-catch, my primary focus is either on the ball or the person carrying it.
Work Ons
The White Hawks coaching staff pitched to Logan that he needed to work on his speed. “Last season my game was very well rounded except for the fact that I was always a bit slower and less explosive than the others around me,” he told Prep Redzone Minnesota. He started training with Inspired Athletx just six months ago, and Leonard has seen great speed and pure athleticism grown in his game to a higher level.
Logan’s Mentors
From the mentor side of things, Leonard started with his father. “He first introduced me to football when I was very young, and that’s when I fell in love with the sport,” Leonard said about his father. Logan’s father would play catch with him for hours, teach him everything there is to know about football, and coached him from 4th thru 6th grade which is the time when Leonard started to love the sport even more. The second mentor is Mound-Westounka head football coach Nick David. “From 9th grade on, he has developed me into the player I am today and taught me what it means to not only be a good football player but also what it takes to be a better man.”
Learning from Last Season
“It takes a team, not just a few players,” Leonard said about what he learned about winning big games his junior season. The brotherhood Leonard has with his White Hawk teammates and all of the relationships and connections they’ve built will make the dream work in this upcoming 2020 season for the White Hawks.
The film will show you how much a wild card Logan Leonard is and how much of an asset he can be for your program, wherever you line him up!
