Rise and Fire Camp: Who Stood Out?
Overview:
On Sunday, July 26th, I attended the Rise and Fire camp hosted by Next Level Athletix. Quarterbacks were put through a gauntlet of drills to see their arm strength, accuracy, timing, and much more. The field was littered with bigtime quarterback prospects, particularly in the 2022 class. We took a look at who stood out below!
Luke Longval Luke Longval 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Sioux City East | 2022 State IA , Sioux City East (IA), 6’2, 190, JR
Longval pulled double duty after attending the Lemming Prep Insider Showcase; he performed extremely well the next day at the Rise and Fire Camp. This kid wasn’t phased by anything they threw at him, and he constantly made tough throws throughout the competition.
Dontrell Jackson Jr, Marist, 5’11, 185, JR
When I first watched Jackson go through drills, the first thing that stuck out to me was his ability to throw on the run. He did a good job all afternoon of squaring his shoulders to his target when on the move. He’s not the biggest guy in the world, but he does have some zing on his ball. The athleticism of this kid is beyond evident, and that’s why he’s among the state’s best dual threats regardless of class.
Kaden Cobb Kaden Cobb 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Fenwick | 2022 State IL , Fenwick, 6’3, 185, JR
This lengthy lefty has a clean release and throws a really tight spiral. He showed off his arm strength and adequate touch during the 7 on 7 period. He looked like a natural when climbing the pocket and making downfield throws. Cobb is quickly rising up recruiting boards and becoming one of the more talked about midwest QB’s in the 2022 class.
Tommy Rittenhouse Tommy Rittenhouse 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB St. Francis | 2021 IL , St. Francis, 6’, 185, SR
This kid is one of my favorite prospects in all of Illinois. He’s a smaller QB, but he’s an absolute gunslinger. He showed great burst when stepping up in the pocket and consistently dropped the ball in the breadbasket on the deep ball. His timing was spot on all day, and he showed off a quick release during RPO drills. If Rittenhouse were a few inches taller, he’d have multiple Power 5 offers right now.
Conor McCormick, Williamsville, 6’1, 200, SR
McCormick is one of those QB’s who will go out there and do everything you ask. He gets the ball out quickly and will put it on the money. He showed tremendous ability on intermediate throws and consistently hit his targets when he was throwing on the run. He already has one State Championship ring; I wouldn’t be surprised if he added to not only his ring collection, but also his offer list.
Duce Taylor Duce Taylor 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB North Side | 2021 State IN , North Side (IN), 6’2, 180, SR
Taylor is as mobile as they come. He showed he could improvise and make throws on the run from awkward arm angles. He showed great accuracy and was able to thread the needle into tight windows all afternoon. He already holds 1 FBS offer, and I’m curious to see if he picks up more soon.
Parker Brown, Wheaton Warrenville South, 6’, 170, SR
There’s been a little bit of chatter about Parker Brown over the last few months, and he showed why on Sunday. Brown displayed pinpoint accuracy and a tight/compact release during RPO drills. His overall arm strength was solid, and he was one of the more accurate passers at the camp. He’s one quarterback who could vault into our Top 20 rankings very soon.
Jacob Knuth, Harrisburg (SD), 6’4, 210, JR
I heard one of the coaches at the camp talking about this kid, so I had to check him out for myself. Knuth had a good build to him and played with phenomenal footwork all day. He was a natural throwing on the run and had some serious velocity behind his ball. I had no idea who this kid was before the camp, but I do now.
Other Prospects Who Stood Out
Peter Anderson, Barrington, 6’2, 190, SR
Matthew Martin, Eureka, 6’, 185, SR
Nevan Cremascoli Nevan Cremascoli 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB New Trier | 2022 State IL , New Trier, 6’3, 205, JR
David Dorn, Wheaton Academy, 6’, 170, JR
