That help can come in the form of recruiting assistance, weight training, technique instruction, a place to compete, or any number of different resources.
Many of Colorado’s elite high school football players turn to Six Zero Strength + Fitness for pretty much all of that.
Make no mistake, Six Zero Strength + Fitness might not be for everyone. The training is hard and players are challenged constantly. It can be intense. There is a standard for work ethic and accountability that must be met and it must be met at all times. But for those who show up and put the work in like Fossil Ridge offensive lineman and Texas A&M commit Trey Zuhn Trey Zuhn 6'6" | OL Fossil Ridge | 2021 State CO , the process tends to yield results.
“I started coming down here the summer of my freshman year and that’s really what changed everything, just working with Matt,” Zuhn said. “He knows so much about it. I knew what I wanted to do, I knew what my goal was and Matt really helped me get there. I walked in and told Matt that I wanted to play D-I ball. He gave me the tools and showed me what I needed to do and how to execute. From there, it was just about grinding.”
Six Zero Strength + Fitness is owned and run by Matt McChesney, who played at the University of Colorado and went on to have a six-year NFL career playing both on offense and defense. With a 12,000 square-foot facility filled with weights, practice turf and film rooms at their disposal, McChesney and his staff focus their experience, expertise and recruiting connections to help prepare recruits so they can reach their potential and accomplish their dream of playing college football.
“I want everybody to maximize themselves so that my job from a recruiting standpoint is easy,” McChesney said. “Our goal here is to have everybody maximize their investment. This is not 24-Hour Fitness or some place where we’re just focused on one aspect of being athletic. We teach technique and film and it’s like training camp in here every day. This place is very unique, to say the least, and it puts out monsters.
“But when it comes down to it, it’s all about what the individual is going to do, how they’re going to do it and the days they’re willing to put in. If they feel like they’ve achieved something when they get offered, that’s great. But then, what’s the next goal? One of my biggest pet peeves is when guys don’t finish the program because getting offered is just one step and what we’re all about is sending guys to the level prepared and ready to succeed.”
Player of all levels up through college and professional come to Six Zero Strength + Fitness to work. On a given day, a person could walk into the gym and find a couple dozen recruits in the Prep Redzone Colorado player rankings training or going head to head in live team or one-on-one drills. That level of competition day-in and day-out makes for a special atmosphere at Six Zero Strength + Fitness that pushes players to their potential and has helped produce many of Colorado’s top recruits in recent years.
Plus, it’s extremely fun to watch.
“I started here super young and got me first offer my sophomore year,” Dudley said. “There’s no place to get better than in here. You’ve got everything in here from recovery rooms to film and board work to skill work. It really helped me develop, so huge shout out to Matt for helping make me the player I am today.”
