Standouts at the Different Breed camp for OL, DL & LB
Established by local products Gabe Knapton (Skyline) and Tyler Strong (Niwot), who played collegiately and professionally, Different Breed Performance opened its doors in March with the mission to provide elite football training to athletes in the northern Colorado area. This summer, the performance gym has been hosting camps for offensive linemen, defensive linemen and linebackers in its backyard in Frederick.
We caught up with Different Breed this weekend and went to check out the action. There was a great group, mostly Erie and Frederick players, and the competition was excellent.
Here are five prospects who stood out and if you’re a high school football fan in Colorado or a recruiter, these are definitely names to familiarize yourself with going forward.
Trevin McClain, 2022, OL, 6’4, 280 lbs, Frederick
Not yet a junior, McClain has good feet and great balance and looks to be the presumptive anchor the Frederick offensive line for the next several years. With powerful legs and has a good base, McClain moves well for his size and his solid hand technique help him shine in pass protection. The Different Breed coaches praised McClain for being coachable and a hard worker, and he has reportedly already drawn some interest from several schools including the University of Colorado and Chadron State.
John Pastore, 2022, OL/DL, 6’5, 260 lbs, Erie
It’s early and Pastore is young, but he certainly looks the part of a Division-I recruit. Avery bit of 6-foot-5 already, Pastore has a strong, athletic frame and great balance and footwork to go with it. He has long arms and legs but still plays with great pad level and he also has explosive strength and is smooth with his movements. Pastore has a great football mentality and still has plenty of room to grow and immense potential. The soon-to-be junior was voted honorable mention all-conference in the 3A North Valley League last season.
Christopher Baum Christopher Baum 6'3" | DL Frederick | 2022 State CO , 2022, DE/TE, 6’1, 217 lbs, Frederick
Baum is athletic for his size and plays with great pad level. He is a strong kid and plays that way, and impressed throughout the camp with his quick first step and explosion off the ball. As a sophomore in 2019, Baum was the only non-senior on the Frederick roster who ranked among the defense’s top 10 tacklers with 67 total tackles. He also plays tight end.
Chris Cinocco, 2021, LB, 6’3, 217 lbs, Frederick
Cinocco has good speed and athletic ability and generates a significant amount of force at his size. He gets off blocks well, which he showed regular at camp on Saturday and can play and be productive at multiple positions. Cinocco played in 10 varsity games for Frederick as a sophomore in 2019 and is able to play both sides of the ball. Both Knapton and Strong said Cinocco is very coachable and is eager to improve.
Aidan Achtziger, 2022, TE/OLB, 6’3, 215 lbs, Erie
Achtziger can be effective both rushing the passer and dropping in coverage, which he did a lot of in the defensive system Erie ran last fall. He is an athletic and strong player who also has good speed and a developing ability to rush the passer. A versatile player who can play multiple positions, it remains to be determined where on the field Achtziger might best be suited to play at the next level. He caught a touchdown as a sophomore and figures to be featured even more in Erie’s offense as a junior, but could be more effective as a linebacker or safety in college.
