Get to Know Alexander Zay Zay
Zay Zay is a hybrid defensive back that loves to play press-man, and seeing it in person you want his coverage on your team because of how aggressive he plays against receivers. He also plays a zone corner that can recognize plays very well. His focus this offseason was working on his speed, agility, and getting better in the film room. He’s also has had an emphasis on applying the brakes to become even more of a lockdown threat. Zay Zay played CB for the Rebels of Champlin Park where he was an all-conference corner, all-state corner, and lead the Rebels in tackles his senior year. He then took his talents to Rochester and unfortunately got injured in-game two of his freshmen season, having to watch the Yellowjackets get to the national JUCO title game in which he made the hard decision to transfer out of state to Scottsdale CC in Arizona. He has two years of eligibility left at the Division I level, and three years left at Division II which are both where he hopes to take his game next!
Best Parts about Defensive Back
“I can bring a chippy attitude to the table,” Zay Zay told PrepRedzone.com. He is a prospect that wants to play right away, wherever that may be special teams, safety, nickel safety wherever he can to leave his mark in the college football landscape.
Elevator Pitch
My favorite question is the elevator pitch. Here is what Alexander Zay Zay told Prep Redzone Minnesota on what he can bring to your program:
I feel like I would be an asset to your program being that I am 23 years old and knowing there is more to football than just talent and understanding that there is also business that you have to be ready for those big plays. I feel prepared and ready as I have put in a lot of work this offseason. I am willing to walk anywhere, play special teams. I believe in hard work over talent and consistently equals results, as you may get burned on plays but you have to make that big play in the 4th quarter to bring your team home.
Work Ons from Scottsdale
“The biggest thing was my speed,” Zay Zay told us as he was running a 4.5 40 yard dash and has worked tirelessly this offseason to get into the 4.4 range along with his agility, his burst off the ball, etc. All though he states he’s not the perfect corner, his hard work at making big plays coins the term that Zay Zay is a workhorse that is looking for a new shot.
Alexander’s Mentors
“My trainer, Eric Harrison has helped me play football since my sophomore year,” Zay Zay said about the growth that Harrison has given him on the football field as a mentor. TJ Dean has also helped Zay Zay with his growth as his partnership with Harrison has given a lot of Minnesota kids an offseason trainer they need to take their game to the next level training-wise and on the 7on7 circuit.
2020 Goals
“Continue to put God first and continue to perfect my craft and work on my game to get to the NFL,” Zay Zay about his future plans. He hopes to line up at a program that allows him to play a starting role as a hybrid defensive back and hopes to play for a conference championship, etc. Zay Zay is a prospect that will do anything to start off right with a program even without a form of scholarship in place. “Anyone willing to take a chance on me will not regret it,” Zay Zay said in his final quote to prepredzone.com
It may be from a few years back, but Alexander Zay Zay has not lost a step (I’ve seen it within the last few weeks) since he played at Scottsdale not one bit. Give him an opportunity and he will rise up and take it!
