Northwest Ohio is practically synonymous with hidden gems when it comes to football. Over the past decade, NW Ohio sports fans have been privy to watch QBs like Deshone Kizer of Central Catholic, Brogan Roback from St. John’s Jesuit, and Riley Keller of Whitmer to name a few. The class of 2021 in Northwest Ohio has some of the best QBs in the State, so let’s dive in. Here is a list of some of the Top QBs you should know about in Northwest Ohio.
Brady Lichtenberg – St. John’s Jesuit – 2021:
The 6’1 190lbs Pro-Style QB has been one of the best players in the State over the past three seasons. Brady has the arm strength and accuracy of a big-time QB, which confirms why Luke Fickle and the Cincinnati Bearcats gained a commitment from him. Brady put up impressive numbers in the air led by his 3,100 yards and 28 touchdowns in his Jr season. His weapons in 2020 are superb and arguably one of the best wideout corps in the area. Lichtenberg is moving up all-time passing charts in Ohio and is on my Mr. Football watchlist.
Bishop Vargas Bishop Vargas 5'11" | 165 lbs | QB Toledo Central Catholic | 2021 State OH – Central Catholic – 2021:
The 5’11 180lbs Dual QB has one of the best jobs in high school football. Being the starting QB at Central Catholic is one of the best jobs because the defense is always so stout. Vargas adds more to the equation as he has the potential to extend plays with his feet as a passer or runner. Bishop passed with a 60 percent clip with 1800 yards and 25 TDs along with 500 yards rushing. Vargas also has a very talented team around him and especially at wideout, which will help him lead his team back to the State final four.
Jay Moten – Northwood – 2021
The 6’2 190lb QB has been one of the best when it comes to quarterbacks in the 419 area. Moten has taken the region by storm while achieving some tremendous feats like taking the Northwood Rangers to an undefeated season. While they did not make the playoffs, even after going 10-0, this team is not one to be taken lightly. Moten is approaching several school records and also looking to gain some college attention heading into his senior season.
Jeremiah Beringer Jeremiah Beringer 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Start | 2021 State OH – Start High School – 2021
The 5’11 170lb QB has been sharing reps as the starter since his sophomore year. Jeremiah is no stranger to challenges and competition as week one will be the biggest game of his career versus cross-town rival Whitmer. The Spartans struggled early in the 2019 season, losing five straight out of conference games then finishing second place in league play with a 4-1 record (4-6). Two transfers will be critical factors to continued success for Beringer at QB, one being a very shifty and speedy slot from Illinois. Beringer has added more power to his passes this offseason and looks to gain some all-state honors in 2021.
Logan Heintschel – Clay High School- 2021
One of the most underrated players lives in Oregon, Ohio. Heintschel had to take over the QB job due to injury and took over while going into the fire. Since then, he has become one of the best QBs in the 419 area. His ability to run the read-option and throw the ball on a rope is a unique combination for what the Clay offense is all about. Standing at 6’0 and 170lbs, he has a chance to shake up the TRAC and give Clay a chance for big upsets this fall. His recruiting will be based on him having a solid game vs. tough opponents like rival St Francis de Sales.
