The Blue Devils are going to be tested all year as they play in one of the tougher regions in the entire state. Joining Marietta in the region includes nearby Hillgrove, the always talented Walton, a young North Cobb team, Harrison, and North Paulding. The region is mostly made up of schools in West Cobb, an area northeast of Atlanta that produces top football and baseball prospects each year. It will be a highly contested region this year and it’s loaded with talent.
Here are a few players to know from that region in 2020:
Daniel Martin Daniel Martin 6'3" | 190 lbs | LB Marietta | 2022 State GA – Marietta – Linebacker – Class of 2022
The 6-foot-3 190-pounder is as versatile as it gets on defense. He had a very strong season as a sophomore, starting off the season with a really impressive performance against Rome. He’s got size, he’s physical, and he knows how to tackle. One of the hardest hitters in the state, Martin played outside linebacker at Marietta, but he’ll likely start off at nickel/safety at the next level. He has the length and quickness to play in the secondary, and he has the physical tools to play closer to the line and help in run support. As a sophomore, Martin recorded 74 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 1 sack. He forced one fumble and recovered another. He also broke up five passes in coverage. He currently holds offers from Georgia, Auburn, Florida State, Clemson, among others.
Cayden Lee Cayden Lee 5'11" | 150 lbs | WR Hillgrove | 2023 State GA – Hillgrove – Wide Receiver – Class of 2023
Another young prospect to know in the region is 2023 WR, Cayden Lee Cayden Lee 5'11" | 150 lbs | WR Hillgrove | 2023 State GA . The 5-foot-11 160-pounder has been talked about in recruiting circles since his middle school days and already holds offers from Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, Duke, among others. He did see time at the varsity level as a freshman last fall but broke his collarbone early in the season.
Lee has exceptional ball skills and appears to have that second gear that most his age doesn’t have. He trains hard in his craft and seems to have that natural ability at the receiver position. He has some “Dominick Blaylock” to his game. He’s got speed to beat you deep but his ability to run routes and create separation from a defender is what could separate him from other receivers in his class. Look for Lee to be a national name in the recruiting world down the road.
Marcus Allen Marcus Allen 6'2" | 165 lbs | DB Walton | 2022 State GA – Walton – Defensive Back – Class of 2022
There may not be a hotter prospect in Georgia right now than Walton junior, Marcus Allen Marcus Allen 6'2" | 165 lbs | DB Walton | 2022 State GA . The younger brother of Georgia Tech defender Derrik Allen, Marcus is a 6-foot-2 170-pound cornerback with great length and playmaking ability. Allen really shined last year in coverage, holding his own against older receivers each week. He closes on the ball well, he has active hands, he shows strong instincts in coverage, and he reacts quickly against the run. He knows how to be physical and make tackles in the open field. In the past few weeks, Allen has earned offers from Georgia, Iowa, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Virginia.
Malachi Singleton Malachi Singleton 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB North Cobb | 2023 State GA – North Cobb – Quarterback – Class of 2023
Malachi Singleton Malachi Singleton 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB North Cobb | 2023 State GA has the chance to be the next special quarterback from the peach state. The big 6-foot-2 205-pound dual-threat quarterback has already made a name for himself after an impressive freshman season last year. He’s incredibly mobile, he’s strong, he’s a physical runner, and he’s already breaking tackles on an impressive level. As a passer, he throws the ball well, but he still has some improving to do, just like every other freshman quarterback. There’s no doubt the arm talent is there, and he has the potential to be a great passer, but he still needs to work on his arm development, adding more muscle, and learn the ins and outs of the position. The potential is sky high as he continues to grow and develop. Look for Singleton to become a nationally known quarterback in the 2023 class sooner than later.
