Some of these teams fell just short of making the playoffs and others are a constant participant, but with the ball bouncing the right way this year and improvement in key areas, these teams all have the potential to make the state playoffs in Florida.
Fivay is a relatively new football program that is located in Pasco, Florida, they’re led by coach Matt Durchik, who led them to a 7-3 record last year and just barely missing the playoffs. With the majority of their defense returning that only allowed 19.3 ppg and some key players on offense that averaged 30.7 ppg, I suspect they will be competing for a playoff berth this season.
I reached out to Coach Durchik about the upcoming 2020 season and his outlook on his team. This is what he had to say:
“We graduated three Offensive Linemen so are looking for some young guys to step up. Senior OT Tre Brooks (6’6″ 310) is the Leader of that group and on the cusp of a Great Season. Sophomore Shane Hagen and Junior Nick Monfre are battling for the starting QB spot. Austin Blandford and Angel Gordon will carry the load early.
We are returning the majority of our Defense, which was our strength last season. We gave up the least amount of points in school history. Blandford, Rivera, and Spade will lead the defense as we look to replace graduated defensive linemen”.
THE FALCONS DOSSIER
SCHOOL: Fivay High School
HEAD COACH: Matt Durchik
2019 RECORD: 7-3
CLASSIFICATION: 6A District 6
TEAM COLORS: Navy, Red, Silver
Key players:
Angel Gordon RB-Gonzalez-Gordon has good acceleration, good vision, quick feet in the hole, and has very good balance, and body control. He ran for 624 yards and five touchdowns last season
Tre Brooks OT– Brooks has power 5 measurables (6’6 310lbs), he shows quickness out of his stance, powerfully strikes defenders with his hands and shows the ability to work to get to the second level and latch and control defenders. The sky’s the limit for Brooks!
Austin Blandford SS, RB- Blandford is a heck of an athlete, he runs with power and has the speed to break long runs, also has really good vision. On defense, he shows the ability to play center field in zone coverage and high point the ball. He has really good ball skills and hands, he’s also a pretty good tackler out in space. This guy is the complete package.
