Sometimes it’s coaches looking for a more developed prospect. The reality is some kids are just late bloomers or just have come onto the scene yet. The Dayton area has been a strong producer of D1 college football players for a long time and this year is no different. Today I discuss a few players in the Dayton area that I feel could yield division 1 offers with a strong season.
Eli Newburg 6’2 210lbs (2021) Northmont– Eli projects to an Outside linebacker in a 4-3 defense at the college level. He has genetics on his side as his older brother Gabe, is a defensive end at the University of Michigan. Newburg is a solid athlete who’s fundamentally sound and has a nose for the football. He takes great angles to the ball, and shadows the ball carrier very well as he arrives. As Newburg continues to fill out and add strength he’s gonna be a guy that can be used on all three downs. Eli just got an offer as a preferred walk-on with the University of Akron. While he doesn’t currently hold any D1 scholarship offers, a strong senior season should put him on the radar of any D1 mid-major’s who are looking to add to their linebacker room.
Musa Abuhaidar 6’2 265 2022 West Carrolton- Abuhaidar is an incoming junior who plays with good technique and understanding of leverage. He’s very good at getting to the second level executing blocks. He’s also able to stand his ground when the defense puts a nose across from him. He held his own in a strong conference as a sophomore with one of the top young backfields in the the state behind him. He’s so aggressive in his blocks that he can get off-balance at times. As he continues to grow into his body and get stronger, that shouldn’t be a problem. Musa has a very bright future as a Center prospect that should look to field some D1 offers down the road.
Jason Ward 5’10 180 (2021) Chaminade-Julienne- While Ward has pla I really like him as a free safety at the next level who can cover. He plays so well in space, and covers a ridiculous amount of ground that he’d fit very well as a single high safety roaming as a center fielder. He exhibits great ball skills and and timing that’s gonna make him a problem for an opposing passing game. Early on he’s a kid who can contribute on special teams as he’s played gunner on CJ’s punt team. When ward gets his hands on the ball watch out because he’s a threat to take it to the house. Jason has seen interest from Purdue and has an offer from Findlay. A strong senior season for Ward I believe should result in D1 scholarship offers.
