No matter what position or class, there are athletes just waiting to make an impact and showcase talents that are watched by fellow players, high school coaches, fans and college recruiters.
Because defensive backs and receivers perhaps fill the landscape more than any position, when you come across top-flight linebackers, you watch and evaluate everything they do.
Even though we have produced our share of gifted linebackers, it is a position that if you start early enough, you will follow some amazing playmakers.
Today, we shine the spotlight on 5 Class of 2022 linebackers who figure to impact their programs during the upcoming season.
Check these impressive prospects out:
Tahjion Battle, 6-0, 185, Orlando Edgewater. While he is an outstanding linebacker, who can tackle and make plays, here is someone that is versatile enough that the state 7A runner-up Eagles put at a number of positions in 2019, and he looked tremendous everywhere – on defense and on the offensive side of the ball. Outstanding tackler who reads plays well from the safety position or as a linebacker who freelanced quite a bit. Versatile and very talented.

Daron Dukes, 6-3, 215, Jacksonville Englewood. Whether it was in the middle or outside, here is a football prospect that continued to make plays and give his team a huge boost on the defensive side of the ball. He shows his talents whether it’s in close or chasing plays around the field, you have to remind yourself that he was just a sophomore this past season – and this coming year will see a more experienced and bigger football player.

Domenic Fusca, 5-10, 200, West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman. Already chosen as one of the elite prospects in the West Palm Beach area, this is a gifted player who will do whatever it takes – all over the field and on special teams. He is quick, strong, athletic and very instinctive and reacts to the ball as well as anyone in his class. His versatility has no limits as he also returns kicks, showing his athleticism and speed. Great all-around football talent who has two full years to continue to show colleges what he can do.

Cooper McKinney, 5-11, 190, Cantonment Tate. Talk about a nose for the ball. Here is a gifted player who reads plays, has a toughness about him and a football mindset that will keep him in the center of the action for the next two years. As he matures, this is someone who is smart and has a high football IQ. The coaches love to watch him perform – and for good reason.

Elias Velasques, 5-10, 185, Orange City University School. Yet another of those versatile football players who is quick and very athletic. Comes off a sophomore year in which he started to pick up some key things about the position and the game. An aggressive player who is not afraid to take chances and is willing to do what it takes to give his team an advantage. Not the biggest body on the field, but he is as good a tackler as you will find. His motor never stops. Quality talent.
