The BCS Showcase in Las Vegas featured top prospects from all over the western region. Nevada, California, Arizona, and Utah were all well represented with talent from the elite BCS level to the D3 level. Here’s a closer look at the 2021 prospects in attendance from Arizona.
[player_tooltip player_id="42658" first="Jayden" last="Ahboah"], OL, 6’5” 295 lbs., Desert Edge HS
Ahboah was a guy several scouts were talking about in the OL group with a good workout. He has good size at 6’5 295 lbs. with a very strong and powerful lower half. Both technique and footwork have improved and have contributed to him raking up seven D2/D3 offers so far. I expect that number to increase if he continues on the same trajectory.
Morgan Bewley, QB, 5’9” 155 lbs., Flagstaff HS
Bewley came in the showcase and displayed his athleticism. In drills he showed very quick feet and a good ability to maneuver around the pocket. Threw well on the run to both directions. Could transition well to other positions where he can use his athleticism and quickness to his advantage.
Jimmy Brooks, ATH, 6’1” 185 lbs., Poston Butte HS
Good natural athlete that was an explosive playmaker on offense, defense, and special teams as a junior. Impressive speed, quickness, and lateral agility make him a threat both as a ball carrier and in coverage. All around good football player that puts himself in good position to make plays using his high football IQ, awareness, and instincts. Could be an impact player on either side of the ball at the next level and should see his recruiting stock rising with a big senior year.
Jaylen Elliot, QB, 6’3” 190 lbs., Valley Lutheran HS
Under-the-radar dual-threat QB that is an explosive playmaker with both his arm and his legs. A good athlete that is a natural passer with a strong arm that is accurate from the pocket and on the run. Has a clean and tight release that allows him to get the ball out quickly. He has great awareness and feel for the game that contributes to him improvising and making something out of nothing. Elliot has the ability to play multiple positions at the next level using his athleticism and elusiveness in the open field.
[player_tooltip player_id="42668" first="Luis" last="Jaramillo"], RB, 5’10” 205 lbs., Flagstaff HS
Has collected several D3 offers but is one of the more underrated recruits in the Arizona 2021 class. Luis has great versatility and has been a force his whole career at Flagstaff with almost 2,300 yards and 39 touchdowns on offense and 140 tackles on defense. He’s a physical football player and plays downhill always attacking. He’s strong and powerful at the POA and is eager to collect that first D1 offer. Top performer from the event.
Max Minor, WR, 6’4” 185 lbs., Chaparral HS
Minor also landed himself on the top performers report. He has great size and length at 6’4” 185 lbs. Overall he’s a good athlete, with strong hands and a large catch radius. Understands how to use his length to bring in 50/50 balls and catch the ball in traffic. He’s waiting on that first D1 offer after an injury shortened his 2019 season. Will be interesting to see how he develops and how his recruiting unfolds.
Zachary Morse, WR, 5’11” 175 lbs., Flagstaff HS
Worked out with the wide outs at the showcase but can play either side of the ball. He showed a quick explosive get off and good change of direction in the individual drills. Limited film out there for further evaluation but showed good potential throughout the showcase.
[player_tooltip player_id="42645" first="Mason" last="Osborn"], OL, 6’4” 305 lbs., Chaparral HS
Performed extremely well in the individual portion of the showcase and showed he is capable of playing D1. Has the size and frame to be effective at the college level and showed good mobility and flexibility in the testing. Has good film that shows he’s an effort guy that is physical, aggressive, and plays through the whistle.
[player_tooltip player_id="42635" first="Damien" last="Owens"], WR, 6’0” 155 lbs., Notre Dame Prep
Notre Dame Prep recruit that performed well throughout the showcase and made the top performers list. He’s got great feet and changes direction well showing good acceleration out of his breaks. Displayed strong and confident hands catching everything that was thrown his way. Had a good season in 2019 that led to him receiving a few D1 offers including South Dakota State, Southern Utah, Abilene Christian, and North Dakota. Expect QB [player_tooltip player_id="42698" first="Tyler" last="Schweigert"] to look for him often this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="42698" first="Tyler" last="Schweigert"], QB, 6’1” 175 lbs., Notre Dame Prep
Schweigert showed off his smooth footwork and quick release throughout the showcase and was named a top performer. Clearly a very fundamentally sound quarterback that can spin it. All around good athlete that has several D3 offers including Hamline and Whittier. Plays for a strong high school program at Notre Dame Prep and should see more offers come his way as he continues to impress.
