Continue ReadingEach Friday night this season, actors will shine in the light and others will shrink from the heat. The athletes that stepped up their games are the ones that are chasing their football dreams. They are no longer slept on. They didn’t just answer the bell. They are the BELL RINGERS! They are walking giants, who make plays to help their teams win while waiting for that call from the college coaches who see the fire, passion, and skill. Here are the August 28, 2020, Prep Redzone Missouri BRs (Bell Ringers).
QB Gabe Serri Gabe Serri 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB St. Dominic | 2021 State MO , Senior, St. Dominic’s (6’2, 185) The dual-sport athlete for St. Dominic’s hadn’t played football or baseball for nearly a year. He broke his leg during the football season in 2019 and with rehab and COVID, there was no baseball season. The rust didn’t take long to get knocked off as Serri was easily the best player on the field, leading his team to a massive win over St. Charles West. Serri used speed, deceptive running skills and improved arm mechanics to account for 298 total yards and three scores. All college coaches were waiting for was to see if Gabe could come back healthy. He proved his resolve and will now see the benefits of his play as I am sure college coaches will be descending heavily on St. Dominic’s this fall. #RingTheBell
QB Cole Rubel, Sophomore, Seckman (6’, 150) Another multi-sport athlete, Rubel exploded on to the scene in his first varsity start by tearing up a De Soto squad with his speed and arm talent. As one of the better wrestlers in the state, Rubel understands leverage, strategy, and toughness. But he used his God-given speed to burn up the defense and then pinpoint accuracy to complete passes all night long. Rubel still has a lot to learn but Rubel woke me up so the young man proudly gets to #RingTheBell.
QB Trey Davis, Senior, Northwest-Cedar Hill, (6’, 180) Davis was the difference-maker in leading his team to an impressive win over a feisty Hillsboro squad. Davis accounted for five total touchdowns (four via air, one on the ground) but it was his leadership and poise that won the game. Davis never seemed to get rattled and as a true BELL RINGER, used his potent arm to bail NCH out of each jam. With many high schools not playing football right now, stand out performances like Davis’ will surely get him on college radars. #RingTheBell
QB Taron Peete, Freshman, Duchesne (5’9, 160) Very rarely will you see me hype up a freshman until a few games are in the books. But when a player throws for four touchdowns in their debut, that young man gets a shout out. Peete was smooth in the pocket and from the videos I watched of his performance, he has TONS of untapped potential but he has a chance to be special. Young buck, #RingTheBell!
RB Chase Maxey, Senior, Fox (6’1, 220) There is absolutely nothing I like more than adding a player to my rankings list. That happened today for Chase Maxey. Now you can sit and say I should have known about the senior all along and that may be fair. But the reason I do BELL RINGERS is because of guys like Maxey. He is the epitome of football and being the star when the lights turn on. He was a man among boys in the win versus Timberland. Chase scored early and often to the tune of three scores and used his power, vision and drive to pick up well-earned yards. Now firmly in my scope for 2020, Maxey gets to #RingTheBell.
RB Gerry Marteen, Junior, Battle (5’9, 180) Using cat-like quickness, nimble and subtle moves in and out of the hole and then with a powerful burst, Marteen made mincemeat of a solid Fort Zumwalt North defense. Not that the Panthers didn’t give a valiant effort, Marteen was just that good. Every time the 2022 grad seemed to be hemmed in, he found a crease, exploited the seam, and was off. He showed his versatility and speed as a kick returner as well. I hear you loud and clear Gerry Marteen. You definitely get to #RingTheBell!
RB Nathan Glades, Senior, Joplin (5’10, 180) Anytime you score four times versus a big-time opponent, you are ringing the bell! Glades, in his first starring role as the lead RB for Joplin, looked the part and played as if he has been the starter for years. The senior was adeptly exploiting the holes his offensive linemen made and then knocking out linebackers at the second level. This is the exact performance a senior leader like Glades should produce and why he gets to #RingTheBell.
WR Rafe Darter, Senior, Mt. Vernon (6’3, 190) Mr. Everything for Mt. Vernon, Darter is a really good football player. His two touchdown receptions were the difference in the win versus Cassville. Darter is a precise route runner but excels at high pointing the football and coming down with 50/50 balls. Look for Darter to start getting more college looks with games like Friday. #RingTheBell
OT Hunter Maier, Senior, Ray-Pec (6’2, 265) Another player who went from unranked to my board is Hunter Maier. The senior kept QB Conrad Hawley Conrad Hawley 6'6" | 220 lbs | QB Raymore Peculiar | 2021 State MO clean all night as the QB threw for three touchdowns in a grind out win versus Rockhurst. Maier is quick out of his snap, quick with his hands to engage and fluid enough as an athlete to climb to the second level and make his block. Offensive linemen need all the love so Maier, you get to #RingTheBell.
S Brady Cutter, Senior, Northwest-Cedar Hill (6’2, 170) Not all the bell ringers get to be on offense. Cutter was a tackling machine on Friday night and his double-digit tackles was the main reason his squad won the game. Cutter is a high-cut athlete who plays angles well and will stick his face into contact. Friday Night Lights is made for players like Brady Cutter and he woke up the crowd as he gets to #RingTheBell.
