With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Creed Welch Creed Welch 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Waukon | 2021 IA – Waukon
One of the top junior quarterbacks in the state calls Waukon home in Creed Welch Creed Welch 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Waukon | 2021 IA .
Welch completed 142 of his 241 attempts last year, throwing for 2,226 yards with 26 touchdowns and a quarterback rating over 136. He also averaged almost 16 yards per completion.
On the ground, Welch added 300 yards rushing and seven scores. He even caught a touchdown pass for the Indians while recording 22.5 tackles and picking off an incredible seven passes on defense.
Ethan O’Neil Ethan O’Neil 6'1" | 200 lbs | RB Waukon | 2021 IA l – Waukon
The high-octane Waukon offense features Class of 2021 running back Ethan O’Neil Ethan O’Neil 6'1" | 200 lbs | RB Waukon | 2021 IA l, who just missed reaching the 1,000-yard mark last year.
O’Neill carried the ball 105 times for 958 yards with 10 touchdowns, averaging over nine yards per carry. He also hauled in 20 passes for 241 yards and four more scores, posting 12 yards per reception.
On defense, O’Neill shined, recording 44.5 tackles with 36 solo stops including 17 tackles for loss and four sacks.
Reid Wiley – Crestwood
Last year for Crestwood, Reid Wiley made a big play seemingly every single time he touched the football.
Wiley, a Class of 2021 prospect, caught eight passes for 213 yards with a touchdown, averaging 26.6 yards per reception.
He also had a couple turnovers on defense and could be primed for a big senior season with more experience back on offense.
Carter Ferrie Carter Ferrie 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB New Hampton | 2021 IA – New Hampton
New Hampton’s offense moved when Carter Ferrie Carter Ferrie 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB New Hampton | 2021 IA was pushing defenders backwards.
The Class of 2021 running back recorded 752 yards on 206 carries, scoring 10 touchdowns to lead the Chickasaws in all three categories. He also played defense, making 38.5 tackles and picking off a pass.
Liam McIntyre – North Fayette Valley
Another 1,000-yard rusher in the district last year was North Fayette Valley’s Liam McIntyre.
The junior carried the ball 171 times for 1,002 yards and nine scores, averaging just under six yards per attempt.
McIntyre was also a beast on the defensive side of the ball, racking up 17.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks among his 63.5 stops.
Gage Voshell – Oelwein
The Oelwein offense ran through Gage Voshell last year, and you can bet that will continue this fall.
Voshell, a Class of 2021 prospect, ran for 1,315 yards with 16 touchdowns, averaging almost six yards per carry. He had 236 of Oelwein’s 441 team rush attempts last year, even catching a pass.
On the other side of the ball, Voshell made 66.5 tackles with 43 solo stops. He also averaged almost 31 yards per punt.
