With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Carson Zeitler – Davis County
Four different players for Davis County hauled in at least 18 passes last year, with Carson Zeitler doing the most damage.
Zeitler caught 25 passes for a team-high 418 yards and five touchdowns, averaging almost 17 yards per reception.
He also made 14 solo tackles, picked off a pass and averaged over 19 yards on kickoff returns.
Thane Alexander – Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont
The majority of the offense from Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont last year revolved around Class of 2021 quarterback Thane Alexander.
Alexander completed 76 of 128 passes for 1,330 yards with 13 touchdowns, averaging 17.5 yards per completion. With his feet, Alexander carried the ball 88 times for 328 yards and two scores.
In all, his 15 touchdowns accounted for were the 15 touchdowns scored on offense by the Rockets.
Kayden Reinier – Mid-Prairie
To say Mid-Prairie relied on Kayden Reinier last year would be an understatement.
Reinier, a member of the Class of 2021, ran for 1,127 yards and scored 21 touchdowns for the Golden Hawks, who went 6-3. Mid-Prairie was one of the hottest teams at the end of the season, scoring 62, 63 and 77 points in its final three games.
Reinier closed with a bang himself, carrying the ball 20 times for 270 yards and five touchdowns in a 77-13 win over Albia. He also caught three passes on the year for 31 yards and made 4.5 tackles for loss among his 28.5 stops.
Anthony Hoffman – West Burlington
Anthony Hoffman did a little bit of everything on offense for West Burlington in 2019, throwing for a 165 yards while running for another 339 yard.
He completed 12 of his 26 pass attempts with a touchdown, averaging almost 14 yards per completion. On the ground, Hoffman scored four times, which led the Falcons, who had just one win.
In that victory, though Hoffman was 4-for-5 for 66 yards with a touchdown, while running for 78 yards and another score. He also made 19 tackles and picked off a pass on defense.
Levi Weldon – Williamsburg
Williamsburg had one of the top two-way players in Class 2A last year in Levi Weldon.
The Class of 2021 prospect passed for 632 yards with 11 touchdowns, ran for another 71 with two scores and made 65 tackles including 15 for loss on defense.
Weldon, part of a quarterback group with classmate Brody Wardenburg last season, averaged almost 13 yards per completion.
