With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Blake Chance – Albia
Albia’s record might not have been the best last year, but they were a fun offense to watch.
Class of 2021 quarterback Blake Chance returns after throwing for 2,371 yards with 25 touchdowns. He completed 174 of 323 attempts, averaging almost 14 yards per completion for a rating of 115.6.
Blake Stewart Blake Stewart 6'3" | 215 lbs | TE Albia | 2021 IA – Albia
Another talented Class of 2021 player from Albia named Blake is Blake Stewart Blake Stewart 6'3" | 215 lbs | TE Albia | 2021 IA , one of the top receivers in the state.
Stewart caught 60 passes a year ago for 1,055 yards with 10 touchdowns, averaging 17.6 yards per catch. He forms quite the pair with classmate Nathaniel Wynn, who had 727 yards and nine scores on 56 catches.
Chris Carson – Clarke
Clarke racked up almost 2,300 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground last year. And while leading rusher Brian Avalos graduates, they return Class of 2021 prospect Chris Carson.
Carson carried the ball 88 times as a junior, picking up 643 yards and scoring seven times. He averaged over seven yards per carry and also caught a pass on offense.
He also had 12 tackles with a sack on defense.
Sage Burns – Monroe-PCM
Depending on where he lines up, Sage Burns is sure to produce for Monroe-PCM.
Burns completed 33 of 65 passes for 618 yards with five touchdowns as a junior, running for 779 yards with an incredible 17 touchdowns on the ground. He averaged almost 19 yards per completion and almost six per rush.
The Mustangs also return August Stock, a Class of 2023 prospect to the fold after going 8-3 and reaching the state quarterfinals.
Jacob VanWinkle – Monroe-PCM
Regardless of who lines up under center for Monroe-PCM, they have a talented receiver to target in Jacob VanWinkle.
The Class of 2021 VanWinkle caught a team-leading 21 passes for 447 yards with five scores last year, posting over 21 yards per catch. He also ran for 146 yards and a score on just 17 attempts.
Chris Malone – Saydel
The Saydel offense struggled at times last year, but the return of Chris Malone should give promise to the team this fall.
Malone led Saydel with 18 receptions for 129 yards and a score, posting over seven yards per catch. He also scored three of the four rushing touchdowns for the Eagles and also made 24.5 tackles with two interceptions – one returned for a TD.
