Camden’s talent was no secret going into this season, and he kicked off his Sr season with a bang catching 8 balls for 120 yards and 3 TD’s. Cathedral has a number of weapons both on the ground, and through the air for defenses to prepare for, but the fact that Camden was able to put up those numbers with opponents game planning for him makes the performance all the more impressive. History tells us that Cathedral and Carmel are in for a close matchup. In order for Cathedral to come out on top this year, they are going to need another big game out of Camden this week. His performance here could very well dictate the outcome of this game.
- Carmel Defense
Carmel came out week one and did everything they needed to do on D by holding Plainfield to 7 points and under 40 yards rushing. They were able to control the line of scrimmage, and impose their will while controlling the ball and methodically working down the field. They did a great job overall on D, but were occasionally susceptible to getting beat in the pass game. In order for a big win this week, the Carmel defense is going to need to continue playing strong against the run, and then step up their secondary play to limit Camden Jordan Camden Jordan 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Cathedral | 2021 State IN to as few big plays as possible. If Carmel can grind it out on the ground, control the pace of the game, and keep the ball out of Camden Jordan Camden Jordan 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Cathedral | 2021 State IN ’s hand… It will go a long way towards a huge week 2 victory.
- ATH Caleb Marcus Caleb Marcus 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Brownsburg | 2023 State IN – Brownsburg, 2023
All eyes will be on Indiana HS football when Brownsburg takes on St Xavier (OH) on national television Saturday evening. Not Only is Xavier one of the top teams in Ohio, they are one of the top teams in the entire nation. There are a number of fantastic individual matchups in this game. I could have easily chosen Brownsburg QB, Ben Easters Ben Easters 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Brownsburg | 2021 State IN , as the player to highlight here (he will no doubt have a huge role in the outcome of this game), but I am choosing to highlight Caleb Marcus Caleb Marcus 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Brownsburg | 2023 State IN and the Brownsburg running game instead. In last years loss to St Xavier, Brownsburg started out hot, but could never seem to establish the ground game. They were held to 86 yards rushing with zero rushing TD’s in the game. In order for a big victory Saturday, I think the bulldogs are going to need to control the pace of the game on the ground, and continue to play the great D they put on display week 1. Marcus is a big time talent that can take over a game, and his big play ability is going to be needed here. If he can consistently pick up chunks of yardage and break off a home run or two, the Bulldogs will be in business. When you combine the great D Brownsburg is playing with a potentially dominant running game, you give you self a chance in any game.
- QB Zayd Vestal- North Central, 2021
North Central came out firing during their 40-20 week 1 win over Fishers, and it seemed that the offense could do no wrong. They dominated the game in every offensive category from time of possession, first downs, yardage, and more. Vestal put up video game numbers himself by going 21-31 for 403 yards and 5 TD’s through the air. He also did some work on the ground with 22 yards rushing, but even more impressive was his ability to keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes down field on his WR’s. This week should prove a bigger test for the Panther offense as they are going up against a Hamilton Southeastern D that was absolutely lights out week 1. They held Lawrence Central to 68 total yards and zero points to go along with 6 sacks and 2 interceptions. North Central is going to need another lights out performance from their QB in order to come up with a victory here. If Zayd can put up similar numbers to last week, North Central will be in perfect position to come up on top, but that is a big IF. This will be a fun matchup and a classic case of high powered offense going up against an extremely stout D.
- RB Isaiah Martin Isaiah Martin 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Pike | 2021 State IN – Pike, 2021
The Sr. transfer from Brebeuf Jesuit found himself right at home with his new team week 1. In Martin’s first game for Pike, he rushed the ball 18 times for 113 yards, including an explosive carry for 50 yards. His ability to grind it out on the ground was a big reason that the Red Devils were able to come away with a 26-24 over Zionsville week 1. Even though Zionsville ran 75 plays to Pike’s 56, the consistency of the Red Devil’s run game is what was able to keep them in control of the game. Fishers had their hands full with the North Central passing game week 1, and I am sure their secondary play has been an emphasis all week. This could present a great opportunity for Martin to take advantage of a defense that has undoubtedly been focusing on defending the pass. I expect this game to be a slug fest, and the trenches / run game is where this game could be won. If Martin can build off his week 1 performance, he will put Pike in a great position to come out victorious.
