Continue ReadingIn-order to properly research for the PrepRedzoneMN Preseason 6A All-State Team, I combed through every high school teams Hudl account and checked out their roster for studs of all ages throughout the state. Honestly, it was really fun, and the information I gathered was useful in a variety of ways. One important list I created involved the 2022 standouts I found on each squad, and I thought it would be useful and/or interesting to share with you my Top-5 2022 graduates in Class 6A. All of these preps have legitimate D1 FBS potential, and after this upcoming spring season their recruitment’s should really begin to pop off. Check out who made the Top-5 list and enjoy the breakdown of their sophomore film below. Thanks so much for reading, everybody! In no particular order..
Logan Larson Logan Larson 6'4" | 260 lbs | DL Eastridge | 2022 State MN (East Ridge) DE. 6’3, 240 lbs. @loganlarson22 The best defensive line prospect out of East Ridge since JoJo Garcia (rip) and the most intriguing FBS Raptor prospect since Dominik London, Larson posted 53 tackles, 15 TFLs, and 7.5 sacks last season as a sophomore. He is an incredibly disruptive defensive lineman and possesses speed and strength rarely seen in a kid his age. Larson has a good first step off the ball and comes out of his stance low and with some explosiveness. He’s obviously strong, but I really like his speed off the edge. His hands are also strong and possess some pop, and he uses them well to shed blockers as well. He also plays with some high intensity and celebrates hard after big plays, something I love to see out of defensive players. Not only that, he’s got an incredibly high motor and hustles his butt off every play. He’s a lean 240 pounds and will no doubt add some weight as an upperclassman. He even played some offense for the Raptors and caught some passes as well as played some fullback. Sophomore Highlights
Nick Katona Nick Katona WR Shakopee | 2022 State MN (Shakopee) WR. 6’6 190. @nkato2004 . The 6’6 wideout for the Shakopee Sabers is also a beast on the hardwood for Shako as well as the MN Fury AAU squad, and his basketball game translates really well on the gridiron as Katona runs his routes like it’s a fast-break. He’s got some legit speed, isn’t afraid to go over the middle, and made a sweet one-handed catch vs. Totino-Grace. As only a sophomore he made some big-time plays against some of the toughest competition the Metro has to offer, and is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. I’m really excited to see what he’s got as an upperclassman. vs. Totino-Grace Some 2019 Highlights
Chase Androff Chase Androff 6'6" | 230 lbs | TE Lakeville South | 2022 State MN (Lakeville South) TE. 6’6, 225 lbs. Also plays for MN Fury AAU squad and has a 3.92 GPA. Androff will surely see his recruitment stock rise fast after his junior season, as he’s a complete bruiser of a run-blocker who set up a bunch of TDs for Lakeville South’s run-heavy offense last fall. Just a punishing in-line TE who moves better than 4star Wisco commit Riley Mahlman Riley Mahlman 6'7" | OL Lakeville South | 2021 State MN – in my opinion. Doesn’t stop until the man in front of him is in the dirt, and shows great blocking technique with his hands inside and the understanding of leverage to get his opponent on the ground no matter how they try to escape. Team’s slept on his pass-catching ability as well, as he is great at sneaking off the line and getting open and has some good hands. Also showed some natural pass-rushing ability as a DE. Just the complete package at TE. Sophomore Hudl
Zach Cochnauer Zach Cochnauer 6'5" | 300 lbs | OL Farmington | 2022 State MN (Farmington) OL. 6’5, 285 lbs. @zachcochnauer Starting for Farmington as an underclassman is no easy task, but Cochnauer – whose brother will be a senior DB on the Tigers – started nine games for Farmington in 2019 and proved himself to be a devastating puller and more than adequate at pass-pro. Somehow he looks really thin for 285 lbs., and playing against some of the state’s best pass-rushers as a sophomore gave Cochnauer some great reps and experience that he’ll use to his advantage as an upperclassman. Sophomore Year
Drew Berkland Drew Berkland DB Wayzata | 2022 State MN (Wayzata) DB. @drewberkland Started next to All-Metro First Team safety Anthony Ukofia in the defensive backfield of the 2019 6A state champions as only a sophomore and posted 54 tackles, 2 TFLs, and 2 interceptions. Get’s downhill fast in the run game and breaks on the ball really well when it’s in the air, Berkland has that hard to find ability to make big plays at big times, and he had an outstanding state tournament that saw him make some game-changing plays for the Trojan defense. A physical DB who has no problem getting off blocks and making tackles, Berkland can run the alley, cover bigger TEs or WRs, and also showed the athleticism to help Wayzata in the return game. I’m a big fan of his game and am excited to see how he continues to develop. Sophomore Highlights
Honorable Mention
Bennett Larson Bennett Larson 5'10" | 190 lbs | LB Eden Prairie | 2022 State MN (Eden Prairie) LB. 5’10, 180 lbs. @BennettLarson11 Starting for the vaunted Eden Prairie defense as a sophomore is no joke, and Larson very much proved he belonged as he proved himself to be an instinctive LB who can lay the wood when given the chance. Will see an expanded role in the 2021 spring season and may even get some more reps at RB if the Eagles need him to. The kid just loves contact and that’s what I want to see out of a LB.
