, he felt he still had a lot to work on. He certainly did not expect the amount of recruiting interest he has received. Now, he is playing for his teammates and to expand his college football choices.
“I wasn’t expecting the amount of recruiting interest I have gotten,” Laliberte said. “I went to a few camps this summer. Now, I am talking to almost every Division II school in the Midwest.”
The Crimson posted a 4-4 regular-season record and won a first-round playoff game.
“Our season was good, but it was too short,” Laliberte said. “We lost some good seniors, but we have some players returning, and hopefully we can show out this spring. Our defense was our strength. We got some good stops and had a good defensive line. Our running game was good on offense. We had a good offensive line.”
Playing on the Crimson’s offensive line, Laliberte knows he has more to give.
“I think my season went pretty good. I don’t think I am at my full potential yet. I am excited to get one more chance to get my name out there and have more schools come into the recruiting game.”
Depending on the matchup, as a junior, Laliberte played right and left tackle.
“I am left-handed, so the coaches could line me up on either side. I would say I am more comfortable on the left side, but whatever side I am put on, I will adapt to it.”
Laliberte’s love of another sport has helped him develop what he believes is his best attribute.
“I think my footwork is my best skill. I have played basketball my whole life. I play house league basketball and am light on my feet. I maintain my blocks into the next level – those are my main strengths.”
During the off-season, the 6’8″ 280-pound athlete has continued to work on that strength.
“I have been working on my first steps coming out of my stance and getting my feet faster in general.”
He has also been building his physical strength.
“During basketball, we had morning workouts with the football team. They were full-body workouts focusing on getting as strong as possible. The days I didn’t have basketball, I would go to a gym and lift on my own.”
Some forward-thinking helped Laliberte keep active.
“During the beginning of quarantine, I figured we might be locked down for a while, so I called my coach, and he gave me some weights, and I was able to lift in the garage – usually twice a day, six days a week.”
The unexpected recruiting interest has already resulted in three offers.
“I have offers from St. Thomas, Grand View Valley State and Southwest Minnesota State,” Laliberte explained. “I have been on a visit to Sioux Falls and was supposed to go to junior days at St. Thomas, Minnesota State-Moorhead, and other Minnesota schools, but those obviously got canceled.”
“I think they like my ability to get to blocks, both with speed and power,” Laliberte continued. “They like how consistent I am. That is what I have heard from schools.”
Laliberte should hear from more schools soon. This time around – it should not be a surprise.
