This particular region is led by powerhouse Carrollton, but they aren’t the only school with elite talent this fall. Here are a few prospects to know in the region as we inch closer to the 2020 season.
Smael Mondon Smael Mondon 6'3" | 210 lbs | LB Paulding County | 2021 State GA – Linebacker – Paulding County
Arguably the top overall prospect in the state, Mondon is an elite athlete at 6-foot-3 220-pounds who does a little bit of everything for the Patriots. He’ll be the starting running back for Paulding County as he was last year, but his destination at the next level is at linebacker. The size, speed, and raw athleticism could help him grow into one of college football’s best in a few years. He’s still more of an athlete than a true linebacker this second, but he has all the tools to be very successful at the next level. He’s a 5-star prospect for a reason, and he’ll likely choose between Auburn, Tennessee, and Georgia closer to Signing Day.
Chaz Chambliss Chaz Chambliss 6'2" | 240 lbs | LB Carrollton | 2021 State GA – Linebacker – Carrollton
One of the more versatile defenders in the state, Chambliss is a thick 6-foot-2 240-pound defender who can play inside linebacker, outside linebacker, and even defensive end. He’s as strong as an ox and it shows up on film. He needs to work on his change if direction, but he’s a sure tackle who can stuff the run in the middle of the field. He also has a nice pass rush that he can use on the outside. He’s a good athlete, but he’s a better football player. He has a nose for the football, has a great motor, and plays with passion. The four-star prospect is committed to play at Georgia.
Jonathan Jefferson Jonathan Jefferson 6'3" | 237 lbs | DL Douglas County | 2021 State GA – Defensive Line – Douglass County
You won’t find many defensive lineman more athletic than Jefferson. The 6-foot-4 255-pounder will likely start off at defensive end, but will make his way to the interior as he grows and adds more weight. He’s a great athlete with a long frame who can handle the run as well as rush the passer. He’s quick off the ball and has enough size to dominate opposing lineman. He knows how to shed blocks, and even though he’s still raw, his best football is still ahead of him. Like Chambliss, Jefferson has also committed to play football at Georgia.
Miles Campbell Miles Campbell 6'4" | 230 lbs | TE South Paulding | 2021 State GA – Tight End – South Paulding
The Tennessee Vols are getting a weapon in the passing game when they finally get Campbell on campus next year. At 6-foot-3 235-pounds, Campbell has a thick frame who can be really tough to cover at times. He’s still improving his speed and consistency catching the football, but the size and athleticism are there. He might need more time to develop and work on being an all-around tight end prospect, but he does have a ton of potential. Once the light comes on, he could be a standout player for the Vols offense down thew road.
