I look at how fast their feet are, how much drive they have into knocking their man on their rear end, and my favorite: the guys that keep blocking until after the whistle blows. When I watched our next prospect, OL Blake Bergmann of Wayzata, I saw an offensive line prospect that may be slightly undersized, under the radar, but has solid footwork and speed. Blake could be an asset to a college football program in the coming years in the Class of 2022. What else do I know? Wayzata brews offensive linemen powerful in Syracuse commit Tyler Magnuson Tyler Magnuson OL Wayzata | 2021 State MN and Alec Rasmussen Alec Rasmussen 6'6" | OL Wayzata | 2021 State MN who also has a significant amount of Division I offers. We chatted with Bergmann about his college interest, what is on tap for his 2020 season, etc.
Get to Know Blake Bergmann
Bergmann lines up on either the left or right side of the offensive line at guard. Standing at 6’3 and about 230 pounds, Bergmann uses his speed to overpower and finish thru his blocks. His top strengths are his hard work ethic, his speed, and footwork.
Favorites about Guard for Bergmann
“Being able to fight with my brothers, as I get to go out there and fight,” is what Blake’s favorite about his position at guard is.
College Interest
Thus far, Bergmann has not heard much from college programs although he does have a strong interest in playing college football. With September 1st around the corner, I think Bergmann’s recruiting should pick up very soon as this kid is a workhorse any program would love to have.
Elevator Pitch
Here is what Bergmann had to say was his elevator pitch to the college coaches listening.
I bring a hard-working mentality that loves to fight in the trenches and create space.
Offseason Work Ons
One thing that the Wayzata football program emphasizes, according to Bergmann, is the focus on having great footwork. Bergmann said, “If you have the fastest feet, you can win the battle every time,” which I know is the spot, especially watching him. His linemen partner from Wednesday workouts at Edina in Air Force commit Sam Floysand Sam Floysand 6'3" | OL Cretin-Derham Hall | 2021 State MN , a model for young players to watch, as his footwork is also outstanding. His offensive line teammates have made footwork the main priority this offseason.
Blake’s Mentor
Blake credits his dad for showing him the ropes on the football field. “The love that sports bring,” Bergmann said was apparent to his dad in all the years he has watched him play in a Trojans uniform.
Learning from 2019/2020 Goals
Bergmann has learned that being patient, as everyone knows, “patience is a virtue.” With how his season is going, he knows he needs to wait until March; however, Bergmann will keep working through this offseason as he has another six months to get ready for the March season.
